Water and waste questions at Rallys

For the first time since getting our rig, we're going to be attending a few events this year where electricity is available, but no water or sewer connections.

Obviously these events advise arriving with your on board water tank full, and your black and grey tanks empty. Throughout the events, mobile water trucks will deliver water to your site, as well, RV pumping services will clear your waste tanks.......for a fee.

Question is.........

Although we travel with SOME water on board, and in order to reduce gas consumption, we don't want to travel any further than necessary with a full water tank. Where can you get water on route before arriving at your end destination for an event such as this?

Afterwards, where can you empty your black and grey tanks before travelling any great distance and heading at home?

Thanks or maybe I should say.....Tanks

I've stopped at truck stops to fill up my fresh water close to events such as you've explained. I've had to pay on some occasions and not on others. I guess it depends on the truck stop.

I asked a cost per mile per pound question on another forum because I was curious as to how much it would cost in gas to haul 240 lbs of water 240 miles.
This is one response
"I think this is how the math would work out; 10mpg @ $4.00 a gallon= $0.40 a mile, $0.40 a mile / 13,000lbs GCVW = $0.00003077 per pound per mile. If this was a linear scale which it is not then it would cost you approximately $0.00738462 per mile to haul 240lbs of water. My last trip was 1400 miles, so for example it would have cost me an additional $10.34 to have a have a full water tank."
Your tank may be larger so the cost may be a bit higher. For me, filling the tank at home and not having to make a special stop for a water fill is worth a few bucks.

While I most likely would not drive 1400 miles with full water tanks, I routinely arrive at CLOSE BY campgrounds with full water tanks from home.

I would make sure the fresh water tank was supported well before driving on rough roads with a full fresh tank. My fresh tank has plywood slats supporting it. Others have not been so lucky.
