I have both the open frame 3500/4000 watt and 3500watt dual fuel inverter Champion "generators. The open frame has been used for a dozen years and still starts easily. Nice gentle pulls. My inverter model certainly is quieter but if one likes to camp near noisy streams as I do, either one just fades into the background. The open frame unit meets Forest Service and National park noise rules.

If your campsites are practically elbow to elbow then yes, it's probably too loud. For spread out campsites in the woods, the Champion Open Frame is among the more quiet units of its type.

I think people equate all open frame generators to the old Briggs and Stratton type that have been around since WWII. A 5 hp motor, generator head, gas tank, and a lawnmower muffler.

Well, after many hours of research. Some more research, and just a tad more research. I ended up going with 2 Honda eu2200's. One regular and one companion. I hope they live up to the hype. And thanks for all the replies and help.

What about long term. I have had my Yamaha 2400 for 8yrs, with over a 1000 hours and it still starts 1st, 2nd pull. The best way to tell the quality of the motor is to look at the emission compliance chart on the gen. This number tells you how many hours the motor will run before it gets out of compliance. Yamaha is 500. Many are below 250.

My son uses the champion 3500/4000 in the field where he works [oil] in Colorado they run the champions 24/7/365 and after the first year still going strong . all they need is gas and the occasional oil fill . i doubt they even service these

I work oil in Utah. I'm glad to hear good things about the Champions. When I was a contractor I used an Honda EU3000. Our current contractors use the same. Those things have be ran hard for several years and still go strong. They are also the most quit I have ran.

You must have got a sweet deal.
I've never seen the 3500's at $400 each. (or cheaper if you factor in the parallel kit)

BTW... What parallel kit are you using?
I was told recently by a HF tech they don't have one available for the 3500 yet.

It was, both were out of box at the sidewalk sale. They wanted $450 each and I offered $700 for both.

I found this Atima at Costco.com.

We have two generators...

At home, we have a Honda 3000is. It has been fantastic and with a battery start, anyone can use it. This is more money than you want to spend.

On our 5th wheel, we have a Yamaha EF Yamaha 2400 iSHC. This little workhorse is also a great unit, just like the Honda. We built a generator box for this one to fit on the back of the trailer. We Discover Canada And Beyond: Custom Made Generator Box For Our RV

This works very well and can be run, rain or shine and does not have to be moved. The Yamaha is also in your price range.

I would buy a Honda or Yamaha again any time. Good luck.

I cannot speak to the 3500 series generator issues other than an open frame generator can be heard 3-5 sites away in the Tetons np. Its so noisy you cannot hear an inverter generator in the site next door. In many parks they have loops that do not allow any type of generator. That is fair. I wish they extended the rule to put the open frame generators in their own area.

I can tell you I had a harbor freight inverter 2500. It was noticibly louder than the 2000 Honda's or Yamaha's. I now own a Honda as i did not want to be "that guy".

Not A Briggs and Stratton 3000. Won't run my A/C. But my buddy's Honda 2000 will. And it's to late to return it.

I'm running the 3500 dual fuel also. No problems running A/C in economy Mode on propane. If you are thinking of getting two, get the 3500 remote start and plug it into the Parallel Kit which includes a 50-amp RV Ready outlet. Plug the coffee pot into the line with the remote start. Cheers Monty

Don't forget there is a discount code for Forest River!

Use discount code:

"FORESTRIVER" (case sensitive)

No kidding; it really works great.
Any idea if that works on my Briggs and Stratton 3000? Any how easy is that to install?
Bought the 3000 because I saw it power the A/C in a YouTube video. By the time I got to test it out, the return window was up.

I have the digital hybrid inverter and LOVE it. It is a little louder than a regular closed inverter but when run on eco mode is not loud. Mine runs my entire 28CKDS with 15k A/C, fridge, lights, TV's ect. The only thing is you can't run coffee maker or something that draws a huge amount of power while running the A/C or you will trip the fuse.
I got mine on Amazon for less than $600. It comes with 3 yr manufacturer's warranty. I bought a 4 yr extended warranty for $40. Also this hybrid inverter does have parallel capabilities if you want to add a second one

We will be testing out the 2 eu2200's this weekend on a short dry camping trip to the lake. I have only fired them up in the garage so far and cant believe how quiet they are.

I have two of these A I power inverter generators. One i got from costco for 499$, it has a yamaha engine. The other i bought from Amazon for 359$ and has a Senci engine. Never heard of a senci, Im guessing its a yamaha clone?? Wish i would have bought both of the amazon units, since i bought the costco one as an impluse. I could of saved a bit of money if i would have just did a quick google search.

Both seem to be as quiet as each other, and i usually only bring one unit when camping. We dont need AC so bad where we camp in the mountains. Cant say how long these will last, but they seem well built, and im willing to take a chance since they where so cheap. I linked the blue yamaha powered one, but i got it at costco for 499$ and i sure i have seen it on amzon for the same price before.

We have a 3500/4000 Champion gas generator... it can run the camper , AC included. But I recently got a 2nd Honda 2000i... the Companion model... and the parallel harness so I can run the two Hondas and power the camper with inverter-class power, which is better for the electronics.

I have always wanted that 2nd Honda... now we have it! It's a quiet rig, very efficient & gives me the flexibility of running one or two gensets depending upon the season & need.
