2015 apex 259bhss dometic ac issue

Just got back from a 5 day camp trip and while everything went great I did have an issue with the ac. I need to run the ac at around 73 degrees as the kids bottom bunk gets pretty hot cause of no air circulation and the only entry in the spot is where you climb in. Well normally I see quite a bit of water running off my roof while running the ac and I'm guessing this is normal. Well on our second to last last day I was running the ac and I wasn't getting any cold air blowing out, the ac unit would blow like this for a few minutes then shut down, then 20 seconds later attempt to start again. I could hear the compressor trying to cut in but I wasn't getting any cold air...I looked outside and had no water running off the roof so I guess the unit froze up. Shut off the system for the day and the next morning it seemed like it was working ok again....I'm confused. Is freezing up normal for the dometic ac units? Or am I not doing something right???

It could be another of the bad units too.Freeze up usually means low freon.Get to your dealer as the ac units have a two year warranty on them.Hope yours is covered.

I had the same issue with my ac unit. The tech said it is a protective mechanism when used too hard in hot weather. Makes sense.
Our lower bunk is hot too- easily resolved with a small portable fan. We put it on the island and blow the cool air in. Works well for us. We use another on the counter under the microwave to circulate more cool air into the bedroom.

Those units have what's called a freeze coil that's supposed to be mounted to the fins near the bottom of the evaporator coil. A lot of units have been found with that device just hanging loose in the return air plenum. It's designed to shut the compressor off when the evaporator starts freezing up for very hot humid air and not enough flow to handle it.

Pull the filter grill off and see if there's a small device with a pair of wires mounted near the bottom center of the coil fins.
