2016 Chaparral.. CHECK YOUR TIRES!

So we all know about the "Cheap tires" that are put on 99% of new RVs. Our last RV (2016 Forest River Vibe 308BHS) came with Constancy Tires, which are the same brand as what came on our new Chaparral. I've actually been happy with the performance these tires and was planning on keeping them for a few years before replacing them with either LT tires or a higher end G rated ST tire.

Upon inspecting them, I noticed something interesting though. Our Chaparral was built in 1/12/2016, as indicated on the sticker. But when inspecting the tires, they have a DOT date stamp of 0514 (5th week of 2014). This means they were almost 2 years old by the time they were installed on our trailer. This seems kind of rediculous to me. I'm wondering if there is some way to get them to send me new tires as I was under the impression that a brand spankin new RV should have tires that are anywhere between 1-5 months old at the most.

If the replacement timeframe on a tire is 6 years (maybe 7 if you have really good tires), then by default, my tires have had 2 years already taken from them.

Can you Chaparral owners (of any model) check you tires and see if you have a similiar issue?

I will check them wherever I get my 16 back I just bought from all the crap that was wrong with it on the pdi just don't get how it takes a month to get a cabinet door for a brand new camper just built

It doesn't. The dealer likely sat on the order OR waited to have it thrown inside a camper that they ordered so that they could save $20 on shipping. More times than not, the issue isn't with the manufacturer.

Completely disagree at least with the Coachmen Chaparral warranty dept.

It has taken 6-8+ weeks at times to get parts and I have it all documented from my dealer. They are just awful in regards to getting parts shipped in a reasonable amount of time and even then, them be the correct part and not dented or damaged.

It's not the dealer there getting tired of me calling I'm sure burns me to make a payment on something I don't even have. If it's not here by next wens. Which will be five week I'm going to just pick it up and get the cabinet door when it comes in and put it on myself no reason for it to sit at the dealer for that

You all should call Joe with Coachmen's warranty devision. If you tell him your handy with tools he will juast mail parts directly to you. Great guy to work with

Okay I might do that first thing Monday morning unfortunately it's tax season for my wife so it's hard for us to go anywhere right now. Just want to do some driveway camping.

Glad to hear the Constancy tires are better than some other factory tires. I checked my date codes during my PDI. All 4 had 2615 dates. Since the trailer was built in November 2015, I was ok with June tires.

3 of my tires say 5014 and one says 3615 I think this is a little ridiculous I mean trailer was built 1/4/16 is this something I should say something about or let it go?

You can try to have the 3 replaced, but there isn't anything in FR literature that says you'll get newly manufactured tires. I think there is only an expectation that a new trailer would have new (non-used) tires. I'll be 99% of people would have no idea if their "new" tires were 3 months or 3 years old.

In all likelihood, the tires have been stored inside. I wouldn't worry about the slightly older ones.

Kind of what I was thinking just threw me of when I saw they were different when I was cleaning the wheels after I waxed it also saw it says no chemicals on rims being a detailer I like to know stuff like that having all kinds of chemicals

Looked at ours this afternoon.Build was early March and date codes are 0116.Guess we got lucky.

Manufacturers buy things like tires in volume (for pricing advantages) Depending on when the order was placed and when the RV was started, the tires can sit for a while. Add to that the fact that some buyers notice older tires during PDI and have the dealer switch them with newer ones from another unit before they sign. You can find the same problem when replacing your tires. The last few times I have ordered new tires from my tire dealer I have given them a no older than date after which I will not accept them. Seems to work.

If I remember right, most manufacturers get there frames from an outside vendor. These come in stacked 6 or so high and come with tires (from what I've seen). So coachmen don't have piles of tires sitting around, but a company like lippert will.

I towed over to Discount Tire and had my tires balanced yesterday. One was 2 1/2 oz out,two were 3 1/2 out and one was 4 out!!. Also sold me a road hazard package for the tread life of the tire. Covers blow out,damage to sidewall and rotating and balance for $70 for the set. Pretty cheap for nation wide coverage. We will see.

Frames come stacked,rims and tires come",ready to go", they are installed on the Frames by what the customer ordered,Steel/Alum! They are stored Outside!

I would not trust any of the off brand Chinese junk that they put on regardless of the manufactured date. I trusted mine a little to long, 14 months, and then BANG! One tire exploded and took out part of the side! Replaced all 4 with Maxxis 8008 tires.

I am with you fmc. No more china bombs for me. When mine blew I replaced with firestone transforce ht. A light truck tire.

I actually called a few tire shops last week looking to replace 4 Constancy tires on my 2015 Coachmen 282BHDS. I also was worried about the "china bomb" tires and don't trust them to take a longer trip this upcoming summer. One of the tire shops told me that most all trailer tires are made overseas including Goodyear and Firestone, and Carlisle. The difference is that the name brand companies have better quality control standards than do some of the off brands. For me the $30 more I will spend per tire for Firestones or Carlisle's is worth the peace of mind.
