We did 4,000 miles last spring; took the whole month of April. Minnesota down through Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida pan handle, and back up the Kentucky, Tennesee, etc. Taking a whole month made it not seem like an endurance run. First and last day were the toughest; trying to make some miles. It's just frustrating if you try to go too fast while towing; just makes for tension. Who needs it . . . .

2 months and 6500 towing miles. Central East FL to MN and home via VA. Like AcadianBob said, do't go too far too fast. This is supposed to be enjoyable. One stop nites with 400+ mi does not make for happy campers.

4,400 leisurely miles from CT down to Fla with a lot of side stops including The Outer Banks of NC on the way back home.

All depends, you talking driving or overall?

Driving, we've been west to banff, east to Montreal, north to Timmins, and south to Florida.

Overall, west stretches to Hawaii, east to Dingolfing (east of Munich, home of BMW's 7-series plant), south to the Virgin Islands, north is still Timmins.

Spent 11 weeks on the road last summer. 14,249 miles that included two FROG rallies (Niagara Falls and Seaside, OR). Currently putting together plans for this summer. We are already registered for Goshen and the Oregon rally. Lots of other place to see. We may be on the road from mid-June through mid-October.

I highly recommend retirement.

WE have 16 days of vacation want to spend 6 days with family in California, leaving us 5 days on either side to drive 2000 miles each way. it will be a bit of a push but doable, the only problem I can see is if we hit high winds in Wyoming ( I-80) and stopping every 150 miles for gas.

3000 miles in 3 months. We usually stay at each stopover 10 days to 3 weeks. I never go over 60 mph.

May I ask the route you would plan to take and places you plan to stop? We are in Michigan and are considering a trip to CA. I have never been west and have no idea what I might be getting myself into! lol Figure now is the time to research.

I think our longest is 1,900 miles in 12-13 days for a down and back to Florida in 2012. Deadheaded it down and took 3 days to get home coming back.

my advice is not to do California in the summertime. the weather is great in the spring and fall, so no need to have to compete for campsites and deal with crowds in the summer.
if you have to do the summer, make sure you get reservations 5-6 months in advance.
and just realize that the West is BIG and make sure you don't push yourself by having a limited time to make the trip.

our longest trip was a 4000 mile two week trip from Maryland to Yellowstone and back with stops at the Badlands and Mount Rushmore. It was quite a trip in a popup but we had a blast.

Last summer was 2000 miles: Home (in CT) to Outer Banks NC, Mrytle Beach,
Shenandoah NP, then home.

This July we are taking 5 weeks to travel roughly 7500 miles: From home to Albuquerque NM, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Yosemite, Redwood NP, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and finish the trip with 3 days in Cedar Point Ohio before returning back home.

I threatened the wife that we would put National Lampoons Vacation on continuous 24 loop in the DVD player....."Holiday Road!!"
