6-pt leveling worth CCC loss?

We seem decided on a 360IBL, making it happen in January... sooner if Hurricane Irma wipes out the current trailer stored in Coastal Georgia.

In a perfect world, I'd like to have the 6-point leveling system. However, in comparing the yellow weight capacity stickers on two seemingly similarly equipped units, the one with 6-pt leveling has about 700# less Cargo Capacity... 2032# versus 2731#.

I suppose the more I think about it the more it makes sense, it just took me by surprise. Does all that hydraulic magic really weigh 700#??

Interesting question. The entire 6 point lippert level up system from CW has a shipping weight of 336 lbs. Plus oil, so maybe 350#. Maybe there are some other option differences to account for the rest?

Oh... And get the level up. It's worth whatever CC you lose. Best option ever

On some Factory installed units the Frame is "Beefed Up" in locations where the "Lift Mechanism" will be attached! Some "After market Kits" SHOULD HAVE the additional members installed also! All of this steel placement "Adds Up" in regards to Weight! Youroo!!

LOL.. great line!

The rest of the story is that we want slide toppers and a washer combo as it will be 'home' for seven months of the year. I'd prefer to be well within the limits rather than pushing the maximum.

It's not a race but we would like to travel, including an Alaska run in 2019, so they will be well-used. I think I'll stick to the plan and order them. I'll tell the DW she has to go on a diet.

Thank you for the input.

Hands down one of the best options to have.
Oh and the diet comment, you probably wont see her for about three days. After that the swelling will start to go down.

Highly recommend Level up. But the question is, do you have enough CCC with the leveling system? A ton of ccc should be enough for most of us.

I have a 2018 360ibl and the leveling system is a must have option. Mine has the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 (6 point) which is the electric system not hydraulic. I didn't think the hydraulic version was offered on the Chaparrals?

We didn't get the auto leveling system on our 2018 IBL. Out of the 8 campgrounds we've been at so far, only 2 times have I had to put some boards down to level it out. Auto level added $3000 to the sticker so putting down some boards is not a big deal to me. Plus, seems like it would be an expensive thing to get fixed it ever breaks. I'm sure it's cool and all, and to each his own of course.

Last weekend we camped with 4 other families. We booked late and had never been to this particular campground before. It was a couple hour drive for us so by the time the kids got home from school and we actually got to the campground it was dark. The campground was packed and the sites we had were extremely unlevel. As my buddies spent the next 1-2 hours in the dark with lumber and jacks trying to get their campers level enough to just get their steps down without hitting the ground, I hit the auto level button on my 6 point leveling system and 2 minutes later I was level and done. Like I stated above I have the electric version and it had both my door side wheels off the ground to get level. I don't think this is the preferred method, but under the circumstances I had, I lived with it. If it had been daylight and I had more time I would have put some lumber under the tires. The camper was rock solid all weekend and breaking camp was a breeze. It's a great option and I'm glad I spent the money on it.

Being in warehousing and distribution for too many years, I assumed that if you wanted to lift 6 tons, you would use hydraulics. However in checking the Chaparral website, indeed they offer the Lippert 'Ground Control' electric leveling system, not the Lippert 'Level Up' hydraulic leveling.

Thank you for the clarification... and all the opinions.

I have learned so much from these forums over the past few years. Many people have suggested, "Buy your second coach first", therefor I am being hyper-OCD in making the right (5er) choice the first time. The 360IBL is more than we really need but are looking at this model over the 336TSIK for the 7k axles and increased CCC.

Yes, a ton of CCC seems like plenty but I know how quickly weight sneaks in the door and I struggle with the '1 bag in, 2 bags out' methodology.

We have the luxury of doing it right the first time around. I have already done white-knuckle towing. Never again.

General consensus seems to say that I will kick myself if I do not get the leveling system. Thank you for the real-life instances!

We have had ours for 6 years now. Though it is the hydraulic version, I can say that we are glad we got it.

Only thing it lacks is a longer front landing gear extension. But we have the older square leg style landing gear. So if the sites are not level, we try to get ones that are high to the back, as it works better with those than if they are high to the front. The systems are even better now.

Ours was a left over lot version, so we got a screamin deal. It had things we had not planned to get, but the price was too good to pass up (paint, 6pt, 12ft fridge, etc).

Good luck.
