Apex slideout outer wall construction

Hello. I'm new to forum and Coachmen trailers. Just purchased an Apex 279rls and have a problem. Camping World installed a slide topper and on my first trip with it the roller tube pulled off of the wall. I think that the screws did not catch anything solid. I was thinking of drilling through to the inside of slide and put a backplate to hold the brackets. My question is was plywood used on the interior wall and if so how thick? I really would like to reinstall topper but I don't want to drill more holes on outer wall. I know its Asdel but its not very thick. Any suggestions are appreciated!
