Bumper Grill?

I have a Coleman Roadtrip grill that I want to mount to the rear bumper of my Apex 258RKS. I would have to remove the stock legs and shelves, which should not be much of a problem.



I would also have to come up with a bumper mount. I have located a Keystone trailer part number 294928 that although would not be the perfect solution, would be a good start for modification.



Has anybody already found any solutions? Maybe achieved desirable results following a different path?

Any idea's how to proceed?

Would it not be easier to attach it to a small platform mounted to the rear bumper, that way you could retain the legs and shelves? Some kind of a quick attachment would make it very easy to remove and set up.

I was hoping to design a platform that would facilitate transport as well as cooking, without removal.

While the road trip is a good unit I am of the mind that it would not travel well on the bumper due to the vibration and bouncing it would receive back there.

Thanks, I am weighing that also. It does have a lock on the lid, which is a positive. It would be great if there was a retractable tray under the trailer, that would make it easy!

The body of the grill is at or less than 1/16th of an inch thick, metal that thin and full of holes take vibration poorly.

My Coleman is smaller it does have the lid lock but again I doubt it will take the beating.

I like cooking under the shade and having it bolted to the trailer could make that difficult.

Shade is certainly very desirable...especially for an old motor cop. When I rode, I think I spent 3/4 of my time seeking out shade! Not enough of it in N.M.!

I have a Coleman grill that slides into my Apex 215RBK outside kitchen.
Very nice setup, except that the grill cannot be connected to the onboard propane tanks.
This concerned me at first, but I am gradually getting used to it, not so bad after all.
The grill is fueled by disposable 1 pound bottles which actually go a long way, as I am still on my first bottle after two weekends of camping!
A big advantage I have found is that I can set up and use the grill anywhere at the campsite and also away from the campsite, such as when tailgating during the football season.

Maybe I'll put it in a box and place it in my most forward cross-compartment. That way it will keep the compartment clean......now if I could just find a place to store those darn zero gravity chairs.

I found the perfect place for the 2 we have. In the storage shed to be off loaded on one of our sons.

Much prefer our rockers.

We took out the rockers that came in the trailer and replaced them with recliners.
We passed the old folding camp chairs to the kids and replaced then with a couple of zero gravity's.

Zero unwanted movement and a handy cup holder to boot.

If you have a dinette put it down, wrap the chairs in a blanket and put them on top of the back of the cushions.

Initially, we bought a Q-220 for use in the RV. We has a humongous four burner grill on the house patio. After our first season, I got fed up of having to take the lid off the Q, because it was about a half-inch too tall for the stow-bin aperture.

We fianlly gave the big grill to daughter ansd S-i-l. The Q-220 is now our patio grill and we have a Q-100 for travelling.

The Q-100 just goes in a stow-bin with no tiedown. For its propane, we bought a 10-pound "squatty" bottle that has the same base ring as the 20-pounder. I got a base stabilzer ring from CW and bolted it to a stow-bin floor. The "squatty" sits in in that ring so securely, I haven't bothered with additional restraints.

I wasn't comfortable with running a HP hose from upstream of the RV's regulator out to the picnic table. I'd also seen reports that tapping in downstream of the reguk=lator was a problem because the low flow of the Weber wasn't easy for the RV regulator to manage. There was a post on one of the RV websites from someing who couldn't get the grill temp below 600 degrees.

Very happy with our set-up. We'll include it in the sale of the rig in the late fall!
