How is older Coachmen Chapparal constructed?

Hey Guys,

I have a 2004 Chapparal 278 RKS. I keep having the trim on the bottom of the outside overhang coming loose. My question if anyone knows, what does the screws that hold the L shaped trim on go into? I mean is it part of the steel frame? Is there like a wood sill plate on top of the frame that the wall sit on? I have replaced some of the screws with longer ones and some with the next size larger. They seem to work for awhile then they pull loose again.

Also is that trim supposed to have a bead of caulk on it? I don't know if the previous owner caulked it or if it came from the factory like that. I do know that there is a putty tape like material under the trim piece along the bottom of the side wall.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
John

We had a 2006 Chapparal 277 DS and it had plywood, we as you used longer screws.
