I want to add top bunk

Okay, so I just got my camper and now its driving me crazy that it didn't come with a top bunk. I have seen others of the same model(SOA 26DBD) with a top bunk. I would like to know if I can install one? I want to keep it looking as if it came that way. I have included pictures.

So, is this doable? I realize I would have to find the studs and such. Anyone ever seen anyone attempt to add the top bunk? Does anyone know roughly what the weight limit is on the ones from the factory?

I know I bought it like it was with accepting it only had one bed in the rear but I want more.

Should be fairly easy to do. Your method of install would likely be the same as the factory. A stud finder might help you locate the studs....otherwise take a look at how the bottom bunk is fastened and draw a line up from there. My factory bunk is rated for #250 I believe. Its darn sturdy.

What you would end up building would likely be stronger than what you would get out of the factory.

Steer clear from mounting anything to the cabinet. I bet you could even order the paneling and a few other material items from the factory or your dealer to finish off the bottom and rail area.

Thanks for the notice on the cabinet. Stick framing is nothing new to me. However, framing with such smaller studs, joists and supports is new to me. The bottom bunk would be more supported by the box it sits on and no so much support from the wall framing, I would think.

Maybe I will mock something up outside of the camper for piece of mind before I attempt inside the camper.
