I wish I knew how to drain the fresh water tank.

I am brand new to this forum and to camping in a trailer. We are heading out tomorrow morning for our shakedown cruise.

The PDI indicated that the fresh water tank was full in our 2014 Apex 22qbc. I was shown the drain, and it is clearly marked on the side of the trailer.

I removed the black plug at the drain site. There was another one, and one coming directly from the tank. I removed all the plugs because I would get a steady stream for about 5 seconds, and then a dribble or nothing. I removed other of the plugs, some were black, some were almond colored. In all cases, the water is not coming out. All faucets are open. I tried the pump and the drainage was a little better, but I did not want to drain the battery, so I turned the pump off.

I think there is something special about the fitting these plugs were removed from. I did the low end plug, too. Same result. I do not want to carry all the extra weight tomorrow. I left the plugs out, but plan to put them back in tomorrow. How can I get the fresh water to drain? Thanks.

Question, did you get any water out of the faucets when you had the pump on....If no
water out of the faucets then your
tank is already empty

Nope. The indicator was saying 3/4 full. I know they are not very accurate, but I'll bet that's it. Is there another to tell? Thanks.

Well, lets see, if you have the drain open and no
water coming out and the water out of the faucets
than I'd bet it's empty... Form what I have seen
and read even the new trailer has problems at
time with the guages showing wrong for, water
black water and gray water tanks..Ugh

The only other way to see is to fill the tank
and the re-drain it that way you know it's
empty...Good luck

If the water's been sitting for a while, it could be slime built up. Check out Herk's post in the dewinterizing FAQ for the instructions on how to sanitize that tank:

I would be very surprised if your tank is full...I also think you have a faulty gauge...your dealer just looked at the gauge, saw it read 3/4 full and marked on your pdi that you had a full tank of water.....very rare that a dealer would give you your trailer with a full or even 3/4 tank of water...so many people dont want to haul their trailer with a full tank of water, and most people want to put their own water in from a known source....cant see the dealer filling it up.

Obvious next step I'd take.
If water pump is running but no water coming out of faucets, tank is empty.

I'd like to see a picture of all these plugs/drains. I only have 1 drain line coming from my fresh water tank.

When my gauges seem to be giving incorrect indications, I've had good luck in getting them back on track by disconnecting the battery (pull the battery disconnect on the Wildcat) and then pushing the button for the tank with the 'faulty' gauge indication. The lights usually flash momentarily and then when the battery is reconnected, the reading is correct. My last trip out my fresh water tank gauge was reading full even when my water pump was sucking air from an empty tank. Used this method and it fixed my issue.

Not sure why it works...just know that it does...at least for me.

Can you not actually see the tank to check the level? When we first got our Georgetown, there was no documentation showing where th FW tank was located. I finally tracked it down by listening to it fill.

It turned out that there are two cupboards down at floor level where the queen-size bed snugs up when the slide is retracted. For some daft reason, both were fastened closed by screws through the doors into the frame. I'd assumed they were dummy doors to look like the upper wardrobes. I took the screws out and opened the doors and there was the FW tank. There's actually a drain line going out to somewhere near the back bumper with a hand valve. Opening the valve drains the tank.

Your brand may not have a similar configuration, but it's worth a look.

Try opening a cold water faucet to allow air to enter tank.

No need to refill. Just add water while drain is open. Water going in should immediately come out.
