I also had a similar issue where it touched when opening the door. I do usually open the awning the whole way then hit the button once going back in as it seems to sit nicer regarding the flap on the end. To remedy the door / awning touching issue I put the wheel kit on. Here is the link:

I believe this wheel kit is referenced in the awning manual too.
