Replacing wall sconce

Hi all,
I recently purchased a new wall sconce for my 2012 Coachman Catalina travel trailer to replace the existing one (the bulb socket broke apart).

I unscrewed the old sconce and discovered my RV has two white wires and two white-with-black-stripe wires feeding out of the wall to which the old sconce was wired (the sconce had one white and one black wire). Each color was secured with a rather fancy connector inside a clear white wire nut.

I can't seem to get the clear wire nut to unscrew so I can remove the old sconce wires and replace with the new ones. Am I OK with just cutting all the existing wires and reconnecting? Why the extra wires? (Local RV dealer didn't know).

I know this is probably a real dumb question, but I'd greatly appreciate any advice you might have for me. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is ok to cut the wires apart. The clear wire nut is crimped on so you will have to cut it off to replace the sconce.

The reason for the 2 white and 2 black/white wires in your wall is that there is a pair (1 white, 1 black/white) for the power supply to the sconce, then the other pair goes to another light fixture. It is a common wiring practice when a single switch is used to turn the lights on. It is also common if each light has it's own switch in the base plate. This is the same practice used when a single switch operates 2 or more lights in a regular house.
