Roof

I'm a little disappointed in what appears to be a quality issue on installing the roof on our new 2017 coachman. Has anyone else looked at their's to see if it looks similar to this?Click image for larger version

it doesn't matter if someone else has a similar roof that just doesn't look right and needs to be fixed. Take it back to the dealer or FR

Agreed, I have a 2016 Coachmen Apex and the roof looks nothing like that, and if it did I would of been bringing it straight back to dealer!

I recently purchased a 2017 Rockwood 5th Wheeler and it not that bad, but almost. Send pic to FR today to see what is up? Not normal.

Wrinkles are normal. Not only did my dealer confirm it (I know them personally), DR stated the same.

I already had a call into the dealer and after discussing with them I'm going to wait a period of time and watch them and see if they get any bigger. They have saved the pictures so they also have it documented. Sometime prior to my one-year warranty expiration I'm sure I will have it there for service anyway and I will reevaluate whether to press the issue.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

We are in fact loving the coachman trailer though.

Not sure what you paid for your coachmen ( a more complete profile would help) but if it's over $200 they owe ya a repair. Just picture that stout tree branch finds that big bubble. You'll never know till you get home. That attitude with with the dealer becomes " why did you do that". No slack, it should be repaired or renewed. Don't wait till leaks. I had a Coachmen for 9 years roof was perfect. No leaks if liner is fit properly!

I remember back in the day when vehicles came with vinyl covered roofs and occasionally would see a car rolling down the highway with the vinyl lifting or billowing up off the roof. I always assumed it was due to the glue releasing the vinyl and the air pressure lifting it up. Why do I see the same instance happening here! Then again, nobody will see it if it's on the roof of your coachman. Just my two cents worth of input.

My 2016 29rlx wildcat has the same issue, but not as bad as yours, yet. Sat at the dealer for 3 months while the dealer tried to fight for me, and still are. FR denied the claim so far saying it is perfectly normal and that it is designed that way. I am not convinced, but what can I do. All I see that I can do is document for a future claim if it fails.

Btw, looked at 2018 at the dealer and boy I got lucky. All the ones I looked at seemed they forgot to glue most of the roof. Maybe it is a new design, "floating roof membrane"? Easier to replace when it fails?

As mentioned in another thread I have made contact with the FR service rep and he has responded back asking for VIN number. Good or bad I don't know yet. Time will tell.

Thx everyone.

I noticed some bubble/wrinkles on my 292BHDS roof the other day, not as bad as this, but found it discomforting to notice

I had to send an email to the FR rep asking for an update but I finally got one. This is his response:

Good morning,
We have reviewed the photos of your roof.
The issues you mention are issues that are seen from time to time.
The bubbles are usually caused by gasses that occur as the adhesive is curing, known as out gassing. They can often be carefully heated which re-activates the adhesive and then rolled down with a roller. You may see the bubbles enlarge and shrink as temperatures heat up and cool down.
The areas at the decking seams can be caused by out gassing, also by small gaps between the OSB panels or differences in thickness of the OSB panels.
The debris you mentioned can be small particles or parts of the OSB flakes which can swell when they are coated with the adhesive.
Based on the photos of your roof and our experience, we would consider these issues to be cosmetic in nature and do not feel they will affect the long term function or durability of the roof membrane.
If you feel there is an issue that may affect the integrity of the roof membrane, we recommend having the trailer inspected by your dealer and we can review their evaluation and determine if any action is required.

Roof

Yes, I was just recovering from surgery when we picked it up. Had I been 100% at the time and climbed up to look at it I probably would not have accepted it. It was about 10 days before I climbed up to look at it. I will never again accept an RV without looking at the roof.

The only positive news out of all this is that I have gone "on record" as being concerned about it in case problems come up later.

My response to the FR service person:

I just want it to be a matter of record that I have voiced concern about this roof. I am not sure that what is proposed here is a "professional solution" to my concern but if that is Coachmen's solution to a problem (wait and see) then I will wait and see. It is my hope that I never experience any problems with the roof because an RV roof is one of those items that when they do fail will most likely cause other damage.

You are the experts so with your explanation I will document our exchange and keep it with the RV in the event future problems do occur.

Thank you again,

I had similar issues but I had a 1" cut in my mind they covered under warranty and replaced the entire roof. Click image for larger version
