Running on electric ?
Is it ok to run the water heater and the fridge on electric when running the AC?

Run everything on 30 amp all the time. Just don't run microwave and coffee maker or toaster all at once.

If it is over 95 degrees outside, have pity on your neighbors and limit your big amp pullers to just the AC. Don't force them to pull out the autotransformer!

Some say to get a plug that goes from 50 amp to a 30 amp, and plug into the sites 50 amp outlet. Does this give you a better chance of getting the full 30 amps than plugging into the 30 amp outlet?

Yes, they provide 30 amps even with degraded circuits.

Ok Herk, are you recommending us poor folks with 30 amp trailers to use the 50>30 amp adapter to get the best use from the pedestal? Or am I missing part of the story.
I like it when you always throw in that "autotransformer" suggestion.

Not at all. Just saying that the 30 amp breaker on the pole gets way more use than the 50 amp one and may be getting bad or loose.
You might find a lower resistance connection by going to the less used 50.

I can get that adapter at CW? Is it similiar to the 30>20 amp adapter?
Since I seem to find the pedastals that have worn 30 amp recepticals, I would be able to plug into the 50 amp receptical and be ok? I still need to stay under that 30 amp threshhold, right?

Using the 50 amp service socket (if available) would be able to provide 50 amps BUT the camper would not be able to accept more than the 30 amp main in the camper. The advantage is that you would be sure to get the full 30 amps.
Camping World and many other online RV vendors will sell them.

So I want to be perfectly clear on this; I plug this dogbone adapter into the 50 amp outlet and it converts the amps down to 30. Plug the surge protector into the end of the adapter. Then the power cord into the surge protector.
Just wanted to be sure I understood.
Now don't go getting technical on me. KISS. The 2nd S is for me!

Makes perfect sense especially at smaller sites which are frequented by smaller Rv units that run on 30. Wish I had thought of it on my last trip I wouldn't be replacing the plugs on my surge protector and Rv today. Great advice amigo thanks,

That is the "Gist" of it.
(NOTE: This is technical part - The dogbone adapter can provide 50 if the camper wanted it; but it does not; so it does not.)

Told my bride 30 something years ago, "Baby stay with me and you'll be wearing diamonds as big as mule turds"!
