I would remove the filter first.

In my case, it happens automatically since I remove and discard the filter as part of the wintering process in the fall and replace it at the beginning of the season with a new one as part of the dewinterizing in the spring. I replace the filter as the last step in the process.

I think if you research bottled water, you'll find it no better than tap water or water from a campground. Don't know of any water system in cities or campgrounds that aren't tested by the states for purity.

never understood the reason why people don't use the water from their tank. Bottled water is expensive, comes in plastic bottles that clog our landfills, and is usually no better than what comes out of your faucet. We've used water from our tank for two years now; we haven'tbecome sick, etc. Eliminating every germ from your life isn't a great idea. Your bodyneeds some germs to build up antibodies. Anti-bacterial everything is what allows "super bugs" to flourish.
