This is why I practice

It's 5 days before our first outing with the new trailer. It finally got warm enough to de-winterize where I could check the plumbing and sanitize the fresh tank. Well everything went smooth except for a small leak on the fresh water intake. (no big deal, just tightened the clamp) This whole time all the water from inside was going into either the grey or black tank as it should. Here is the funny part. I purchased a blue boy last year and wanted to drain the tanks from the trailer to my sewer clean out at the house. (have never done this before) So I get the blue boy situated at the trailer clean out and proceed to remove the cap to install the hose. I did not realize, since I never used it before and did not even think to check, that both the black and grey levers were in the open position and boy did I get a surprise. Thank God it was only water and some RV antifreeze! I just knelt there after shutting the valves laughing to myself and thinking "idiot".

Get one of these as extra security on your drain-outs:

https://www.campingworld.com/twist-on-valve

Never leave home without it!

Yup, could’ve been very ugly. Camping this weekend and will be ordering when I get back. Thoughts of the movie RV keep coming to mind.

I always check the position of my gate valves before removing cap. I was at a nascar event years ago camping where someone thought it was funny to go around and pull valve handles leaving everyone a surprise when the left and pulled cap off.

It sometimes doesn't matter if valves look closed or not.Sometimes they don't seal completely. The mentioned vale is great insurance against getting something run up your shirt sleeve.
I never take mine off.

Yup!

Never take mine off, either...

It stays on my drain 25/7/365!
