Question Tire size change

I have a coachmen freedom express 281rlds. GVWR 7600 lbs.. Tires that came on trailer are 205/75R14C. Seems that a tire of this size is rated at a maximum load of about 1760 lbs Seems that these tires are grossly underated for the GVWR stated. I am thinking about upgrading to 15" wheels and tires 225/75R15C... Has anyone done this...Will they have enough clearance? Just seems that the tires and wheels are marginal for this trailer...Don't understand how they can put tires that do not meet the GVWR rating of the trailer... Any input would be appreciated...

They do.

I just changed to a d rated tire and kept the same size 205/75/14. Figure out the outer diameter of the size tire you want and compare it to the tire size you haves outer diameter. I'd do it but the phone is not good for all That..

So I looked 26 for the 14s and 28 (27.7). So 2" total. Can you fit an extra inch in there?

Why not go to a 215/75/14? 1870 for a C or 2200 for a D

As the others have said subract your tongue weight from the GVWR. You could simply keep the same size but step up to load range "D" which will give you a max load capacity of about 2150lbs/tire if I remember correctly. You would need to be sure your wheels could handle the higher psi requirements for the tires you purchase.

Edit: Reading the post above the "D" load range is not 2150lbs.
