I did the same thing you did, tried to set up my hitch beforehand. I ended up changing it like 3 times to get it right. I also just towed it home with a standard adjustable hitch because I couldn't get it set up right in the rv parking lot. Way easier to take your time without any pressure.

So my advise, don't put it together until your are there, or just tow it home with a regular hitch and set it up later.

I have the 21bh version of your camper (viking and clipper are the same thing) and didn't have any sway without a wdh and I towed mine from over 300 miles away. Don't know what you are towing with but that is a 3000 lbs camper, pretty much anything should be okay without a wdh for the short term.

By the way, my clipper was pretty high at 21" hitch height I believe. I thought it would be much lower. I have no idea it the 17 and 21 are the same.

Good luck

I can measure the hitch on my Clipper 17bh tomorrow if it helps, but it your unit new or used? I have a 2015 with 13” wheels, and I think the newer ones might be 14”?

Used 2017 13" wheels, I'd appreciate it.

Ok will do! Where exactly should I measure to in order to get the correct hitch height? Bottom or top?

Measure the distance from pavement to the inside of the coupler socket. Please.

Yes, I keep it slightly nose-down for drainage but I leveled it before taking the pic
