Water heater problem 2012 catalina

So this weekend we took out our new to us 2012 Catalina 28dds. Water heater fired up fine, but when you open a hot tap you get hot water for about 10sec then it goes cold. I purged the blowdown valve on the heater itself and it was ALL hot. Is there somewhere the hot mixes with the cold that this could happen?

Yep. you probably have the crossover valve open. Hold on and I will edit this post

Here you go, this should help. We keep this thread at the top of the plumbing section. It will be the most asked question for the next month as people dewinterize their RV's.

That's how my valves are. Hot open, cold open, bypass closed

You may want to check that crossover valve again. Since the line it is on is usually vertical, it's real easy to mistake the position of the valve. Many people when looking down at it, think they have it closed when it's actually open. That valve's handle needs to be intersecting the line it's on. A pic would really help.

One other thing that can cause this, is if you have an outdoor shower. If you have the outdoor shower taps on....but have the handheld wands button in the off position...this also allows cold water to be drawn into the hot water line via the hand held wand. You want to make sure that the outside shower taps are indeed off.

If your valves are these cheap metal ones, the handle may have turned, the ball inside may not have turned.

Here is a pic I posted the other day helping a member. It has the cold water inlet valve, hot water outlet valve, and crossover valve labeled.

It also shows how the three should be positioned for normal use.

Note how the inlet and outlet valve handles are parallel to their line, while the crossover valve handle is perpendicular to it's line.
