What are these for? Drawers? Cabinets? None of the above?

My wife and I are loving our new Clipper TT...

We're somewhat confused by the cubbie holes beside the bed. Are these simply cubbies? Are there supposed to be doors to cover the front, or drawers to slide inside?

Our camper varies from this photo only in that the sides where the cubbie holes meet the mattress are filled with a particle board/laminate side... making anything placed inside these (especially if the items slide all the way forward) VERY difficult to get to.

They are hard-mounted to the camper, so they're not easily removable. I don't mind having the hard-shelf there, but not knowing what they're for is driving me nuts.

I'd love to get some sort of door or drawer to slide inside here to make it look a bit more 'finished'. Any thoughts?

You seem to be right with all of your assessments. The unit does not 'seem' to be 'finished'. Since your cubbies have walls, finish it out with an added drawer.

Also looks like the sides of the closets are bowed out at the bottom as they are sure not 90d to the horizontal at the lower halve.

Optical illusion, the camper top angles back toward the camera and the closets are deeper at the bottom and narrower at the top. The side cubbies are not as wide as the closets. The OP also needs to add cabinets between each closet across the top for more storage.

The bottom of the closets are definitely not 90d to the horizontal board above the window or parallel to the front of the closets. It is not an optical illusion. They are not parallel or perpendicular to anything in the photo. They start curving at the top and get worse toward the bottom.

Not a hill to fight on. Myself, I would not have bought the unit.

It's likely one of things that you get the joy of finding something to do with the space. I'd be on the look out for some kind of wicker or pretty wood basket that fits and that you can easily pull out.

LOL! They're already there, the doors are open and hard to see at first.

That is sooo funny.... I said it looked like an optical illusion.

Thanks for pointing that out. I can see it now.....

I call it optical illusion with a wide angle lens. Notice that the "night stands" point inward. I remember in art class, when doing perspective drawings. I use to love doing those.

Not referring to the vanishing point going back to the wall, talking about the curvature going from the bottom of the closets up the wall. They curve, but the front corner of the closets are straight.

I wouldn't put drawer in there, as I can imagine that I'd forever be wanting something in that drawer, then having to move my keys, phone, etc.... that I just laid on that nice table surface IN FRONT of that drawer, over to the bed so that I can open it!

Too bad the outlets aren't inside those cubbies, so that the wall wart cell phone chargers, extra wire, etc.... could be hidden down there, with the business end passing up through a small hole with one of those little desk porthole thingies (technical term). If that were the case, you could trim out the openings with a false door front, with some magnetic or friction catches, just to hide the mess.

What does the brochure show in this place? Maybe the factory "forgot" to finish the job and left the drawers out???

My guess though, is that it's an attempt by the designers to add a little something so that an alarm clock would be above the bed level so that it would be visible. Nothing more......

cabinet doors

Perhaps if you could find a sales brochure for this unit, you could see what was supposed to be there, if anything.

Could be just an inexpensive night stand.

Wow... What a response. Thank you all!

My wife has already planned the wicker basket idea, so she's there with ya.

Yes, the cabinets overhead have doors. Full disclosure: I didn't take this photo... This one isn't even my camper. I found this pic online on a sales website and it showed the cubbies best of any others I'd seen. I guess i should have stated: for informational purposes only.

The closets actually do hover directly above these cubbies. The dimensions at the base of the closets are the same footprint as the cubbies.

Ill find some creative way to use the space. Till then, thanks for the info.

Looks just like our 17FQ. Ours are open on the side next to the mattress
just like the photo. We've found them to be quite useful as a place to lay our glasses at night, charge cell phones, lay a book for late evening reading, etc.
If yours have sides next to the mattress I would be looking at ways to remove them for better access to the bottom section. With the dark covering in the base most anything dark in color is barely visible stored down below.
To us they are little nightstands, nothing more.

Our 17bh is similar. I put a dual usb charging outlet in place of the regular outlet, so we have two usb outlets and a single 110 now. It is perfect for charging phones at night and keeping stuff off the bed like keys, wallets and glasses.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

On my 25DS those are closed in with an electrical outlet on each side. Hmmm wonder if I could get a little more storage there.
