In the fine print on Forest Rivers paperwork it says they have the right to substitute without notice, so they send the unit without any of those. Of course I've already paid for it.....
I am in your camp. If the unit has been delivered and sitting on their lot, they will want to sell it to you. I doubt they want the hassle of a lawsuit if they won't let you do a PDI before you complete the contract and try to steal your deposit.

There is so much complaining on the forums about lousy quality control, cutting corners, fighting to get warranty work done, ect, but at the same time there is this attitude of "Well, that's how they do it, so just accept it." I guess if we as a whole did not buy the units unless there was better quality and service then maybe things would change. Problem is, we want it, we want it now and in the long run we justify the what ifs...

Hope you get your unit soon and are out enjoying yourself. As many of our friends on this forum are packing their units away for a long winters nap, the best camping is just beginning in Florida...

Actually the question was directed to the op who had the complaint. But your experience is an example of the trust that is built between a dealer and customer. Built on good faith and expressed intentions. You've earned a healthy level of respect with the dealer. Just wondering if the op has ordered without some binding agreement from other dealers.
I ordered my first 2 (TT&5er) with only a handshake but I had an in with the dealer due to father in law buying from them in the past. A man's word and handshake used to mean something. Now some shout lawsuit at every little thing. This is supposed to be fun.
(Headed to the woods next weekend for deer season camping) FUN!

Have I bought in the past, well just since 2000, I bought a 31ft Carver Mariner. Down payment made, professional survey done then the papers were signed. In 07 I bought a Chevy 2500 pickup, down payment made, truck came in and I test drove it and made the purchase. In 08 I bought a Keystone Cougar. Money put down, the unit came in I inspected it and made the purchase. In 12 I bought a 12 Chevy Cruize, down payment made, test drove the car and made the purchase. In 12 I ordered a Victory Vision motorcycle, down payment made, the bike came in I test rode it and made the purchase. So you can see the reason for my supprise when I was asked to pay for an expensive fifth wheel before I even got to see it.. This post has been a real eye opener for me. I still cannot believe the number of people willing to put down a pile of money on something before they even inspect it...

On Tuesday I finish the PDI and sign the paperwork on the unit. At this time I have every reason to believe after meeting with the Manager that the sell will go smoothly and my next post will be a positive one...

When I ordered mine from a Wholesaler, all I had to do was give a deposit. A 1000 dollars. When it showed up, we did the PDI and THEN signed the papers. Seemed normal to me. I too would have qualms about what they wanted you to do. Good luck on your PDI, knowing what they now know about ya. Maybe they went through it with a fine tooth comb.

OP - I asked above but it must have gotten lost in all the responses. Others asked too. Can you let us know the terms of your purchase? Was it a unit on the lot, was it a special order, did you pay a deposit, did you sign any kind of purchase agreement, etc? And then assuming you did sign something, what does it say? I am thinking what they are asking you to do (right or wrong) is specified in the purchase agreement.

Thanks I couldn't find this thread earlier. Yes after a rocky start with my order, I picked up the toyhauler last week. Eric, the salesman, and Matt the manager, worked out the concerns I was having and the purchase went well. I am very happy with the experience now and would definitely buy there again. I have to also give thanks to Norman who demonstrated the unit, what great guy......Now I can't wait till spring so I can load the motorcycle and travel..

Why wait for spring? You must be up north.
