Lowered Gross Weight on New Models

Anyone have any idea why the new models of the Puma 356 QLB s Toyhaulers advertised specs have lowered the gross weight over 1,000 lbs ?????? From about 14,500 to 13,200. Should the older models be down rated as well??? Think I am putting ours on a diet

Eppendydad and me were talking about this on our Sabres a few weeks ago. His was rated for something in the mid 15k range and my (same model, different year-36qbok) is only rated for 14,665lb?
I dont know why, i think he found the pinbox to be one of the reasons, im sure he will shed some light on this.

Could it be different axles or tires?

Yep- the 36qbok went from 15,825 to 14,660 or so. I have been in contact with the engineering manager over Palomino, Puma, Sabre, and Columbus. My concern is just what the OP said- do I need to put my camper on a diet?

His answer was no, the camper I have is rated for the full weight that the sticker says. Now, that said- the pin box I originally had was technically underrated (it only went up to 15,500) but that is being addressed with the TrailAir (18k capacity). His comment was that the newer ones were derated due to pin box availability over 15,500 and "to keep a balanced coach"; but I'm not sure what that means.

I'm comfortable exceeding the new GVWR. My camper is within its stickers and that's good enough for me. (Specifically, I've done weighings and know what my axles are carrying AND I've split the axles across scales and know that each axle is within spec. The only thing I have not done is individual wheel weights which is something I'd like to do.)

I'm guessing different standard axles *OR* it's just a typo. Probably worth the OP sending something in via the contact us page.

Thanks, I will do that. Interesting that several models have been down rated.

Ours I found to be down rated on both the Palomino website & the brochure. Will let all know what I find out.

Was wondering if it was a engineering / liability error if it was a possible frame or other issue. I would say my pin box weight can vary quite a bit also. Toyhaulers are much harder to estimate weights as the load can vary so much. Just camping gear, with golf car, atv(s), motorcycle(s) or whatever & how far forward, backward, side to side they are. We usually have just the golf cart or are without it. Wish I had a CAT scale closer that had a huge empty parking lot and I had a free day,..... Lots of variables I have weighed & I am definitely under my max.
