Wheel bearing grease

Hi all new to form and was wondering what wheel bearing grease everyone would recommend to top off bearings between repacking?

Actually I wouldn't recommend doing that, You should buy a good bearing grease, clean bearings of old grease , repack with new and then use SAME grease to add in between repacks. In other words DON"T mix types. Just my opinion.

You need to be careful which type of grease you mix together. Dexter recommends that you use a lithium based complex grease. If you mix other types with lithium grease they may or will react with each other and cause the grease to fail. Many of the grease manufactures produce a lithium based grease you just need to make sure it's lithium based. If you can't find lithium based grease check with your local auto store.
I have attached a link from the site library at the top of this page. You will need to download the link and then open it. On page 21 you will find what Dexter recommends to use

Hope this is helpful Tim

Hi Forgot to Say in my last post Welcome to the forum.
Did the dealer give you a packet with the trailer manuals for the appliances and other parts of the trailer use and care. Dexter axles is the manufacturer used on a lot of the Forest River trailer.
If you are looking for which brand of grease to buy that will bring out the pop corn and peanut gallery as every one has a different brand and price range they like. I just buy a good lithium grease that meets the temp range & pressure at the local automotive parts dealer near me.
If you are looking to use the grease zerk supplied in the axle only to grease your axle I would not do it. There a lot of post about seal failure and filling the breaks with grease with use of the grease zerk.
I repack the bearing the old school way every 1-2 years or 15000 miles of use. That way I can inspect all the parts to make sure there are no problems that will surprise me. Well lets rephrase that I try to prevent a problem by not taking a short cut in the preventive maintenance.

Hope This Helps Tim

I don't get to go as often as I would like to but I do go about 1 or 2 times a month so I will be repacking about every 2 years or so thanks to all

The answer is simple....DON"T DO IT!

Too many times I have heard about, and I myself have experienced over filled grease via pumping through zerk fitting resulting in grease destroying the brakes. (I didn't do it, it was on 2 used campers I purchased, one from a dealer).

Take the time to repack them yourself or take it to someone who will. It also gives you the opportunity to inspect the brakes and possibly find, like I did on my current camper, a spun bearing race in a hub. The outer race had spun and would have eventually resulted int he entire hub, wheel and tire departing the camper while I was towing it. (a Nightmare scenario if ever I heard of one)
