We have a 2013 Rockwood Roo and have paid someone to winterize it for the last 2 years. We want to do it ourselves this year but have a question. I know we have to by pass the water heater. There is an Anti-freeze inlet on the outside of the camper. Do we just hook the anti freeze jugs up to that and turn on the pump? Or is there a valve somewhere that also has to be shut off in order to use that inlet? Any help/tips would be appreciated!!
There is a valve you have to turn in order to have the pump suck from the antifreeze inlet instead of the fresh water. Valve should be fairly close to the pump.
Ours was hard to find at first.
I have a Rookwood but not the Roo, first time I had the same problem wouldn't suck in, found the FW valve nowhere close at all but follow the line from the pump, once I closed that it drank the juice. Also that is not in the book that came with the unit.
Just a Few (DO THIS FIRST) things, turn OFF the 110V switch on your W/H,this is located out side on the W/H, turn the(3) W/H bypass valves for Winterize, turn OFF the water pump and open the H&C faucets, Now remove the A/Rod plug from your W/H,this will require a (1 1/16 6PT Socket) while it is draining ,now OPEN the Low water drains & the F/W tank drain! This is just some Tips to elevate Problems in the future! Youroo!!
dec1952 - My Windjammer has two valves, one from FW tank and one from the anti freeze inlet. I must close the former, open the latter, to pump the AF through the system using the water pump.
Which roo do you have? I have only one valve to switch for antifreeze inlet on our 2014 23ss. You do want to be sure to have your valves in bypass for the water heater.
Is there just one valve that has to be closed (the one to the F/W tank)? Do I have to open another one some where else?
all trailers are different. Depending on the valves. After you open your low point drains. You have three vales to turn on the Hot water tank for the by pass and on mine I just have to close the FW valve hook up the hose to the anti freeze line and open a faucet to start that starts the pump. I start with the kitchen sink on cold then the bath, shower and out door shower then head then I open the hot side in the same order then I'm done. Total 4 valves have to be turned only on mine. then I add pink to the pee traps and dump a little baby oil on the head seal. Drain the FW tank if you do not have tank heaters and are not plugged in I'm plugged in all winter. I leave my space heater at 65 degrees and open the cabinets door and tank heaters on if it drops below 32 for more the 2 days.. That's it for me. Your's could be different but not by that much. The space heater keeps mold from growing. I'm lucky mine is plugged into a dedicated 30 amp service I installed at home.
I suggest spending some time on YouTube... Just go there and search RV winterization. There's plenty to watch and one of them will probably match your camper. Really helps to know what the process looks like.
