It will turn on the electric element if you are plugged into a form of 120 volt shore power.

The inside DSI switch, can also be turned on at the same time and the water heater will use propane...............as the heater is designed to use either propane or electric...or both simultaneously if you want.

It's explained in the link I posted previously........... assuming you have the Suburban brand water heater.

Has both usually but it is an option they put on for the most part. Only the propane is inside. The electric is a manual switch outside. Open up the hot water heater cover, look down on the bottom left hand side you'll need to pull a little pin out and turn the switch to on for electricity. Propane is a lot faster. Electric is good for extended stays. Don't try to run AC and electric hot water heater on a generator
Hope it's helps

Just be sure to have water in the heater before and any time you have that switch turned on! I already knew that and still slipped up and must have left the switch on then plugged in shore power before filling the water heater. Oops. Another $15 for a new element and $6 for the tool to remove the dead one.
