3 Month storage-Water configuration

Just returned from 3 months snowbirding in SC. First time. Have cleaned black and grey tanks thoroughly, including using bleach and ice in black water tank. sHave drained hot water heater and water system.

Next trip scheduled July 20, 2014. Should I leave tanks empty or full. What additives should I use to protect grey, black water tank, while it sits. What about internal water tank.

I would sanitize the fresh water system. I would also leave a few gallons of water in the black tank with some chemicals. If any solids or paper are left behind that should dissolve them. If you left the tank empty they will harden like a rock. Just before you left I would flush out the black tank good.

3 month storage - Water config

Jwedell,
Thanks for the response. Have essentially done what you suggested in the black water tank.

Agree that sanitizing the tank is a good idea and I know how to do that. However, when I'm done, do I leave water in the tank for three months or do I leave it dry until I'm ready to leave on the trip in July?? If I should put fresh water back into the tank, how much?? I assume that would include the hot water tank as well. Hot water tank would fill first wouldn't it? So hot water tank is full and then leave some 1/3, 2/3 in the fresh water tank.

Thanks.

I would let it dry and sanitize it just before you use it.

I would drain all the lines and blow it out with low pressure air.

got it. What do I need to blow out the lines. Compressor of some kind. I usually let them drain at lowest point. Have already drained hot water heater and fresh water tanks. Have not blown themout.

I use a small compressor on mine. The low point drains will get most of the water out but some will remain. If no freezing is involved you're ok just to drain the system.

I read somewhere you should not leave your tanks dry because the seals will eventually dry and crack. I'm wondering if that's true or false? I prefer to drain all water from tanks and lines when not camping.

Dave,
I don't know the answer. I have left water and treatment in black and grey water tanks. Just minimum amount.

Have emptied fresh water. Plan to sanitize with bleach and water before trip in July.

Geo method the black tank and add a deodorizer to the grey. Leave the fresh water tank empty..
