OK. Is this normal wear for a 2013 model that was bought new in May? And is it normal to wear more near the threads?

Most hardware stores will have something similar to this....

Camco Steel Water Heater Element Wrench-15493 at The Home Depot

I think I bought it at Lowes, There were 3 sockets of different sizes all kept together with a wire clip that was similar to a safety pin.

They're a cheap way out, but I don't change out too many elements if I can help it.

Nope. Too big. Mine is for home water heater elements. Looks about 1 3/4".

The anode rod (1 and 1/16th) and the electric heating element (1 and 1/2) require two different sizes.
