Atwood Water Heater issue

Finally got around to dewinterizing the trailer. Got water heater fired up. Had long orange flames and fire up around the chamber till the vent end. A lot of black smoke . Finally got it to a nice blue flame and no fire way up in the chamber. Now it heats on propane but it won`t shut off . heats until water leaks out the pressure relief . Check circuit board connections . Any ideas ? Maybe the thermostat messes up? Only have camped 8 nites in the 2014 trailer .

Is it also an electric? If so, when you heat on electric does it operate correctly?

Have you checked the actual temp of the water to see just how hot it is?

No your fine, you will likely get more specific answers this way.

It sounds like the thermostat is not opening when it reaches temp. There is a high limit cutout that should shut it down, but it's set at 190F, and the T&P valve relieves about there too (210).

It could also be that the gas valve isn't closing on being de-energized, but you say it starts normally, it just doesn't shut off.

Nothing wrong was done on your part. The site team moves threads to more appropriate forums, not only to help the OP...but also for members who later may be searching for similar problems.

I am going to tweak this one a little more, as it should really be in the plumbing/water systems/fixtures subforum, where you may get more specific help.

I`ll post what was wrong when I get a chance to work some more on it. This may help others if there have the same problem. The thermostat doesn`t look that hard to replace (thanks to youtube)

Had the dealer fix it. They said I had spiders in the burner tube and they adjusted it. I`m assuming the draft control . Hope this may help others farther down the road .
