bad smell from black tank

Hi. We bought a brand new sandpiper 5th wheel last year. We had it on a site with sewer so had no issues with smell. This summer we are using the holding tanks and it gets pumped out on the weekend. The smell is getting worse and worse! This past weekend the entire trailer stunk - but especially the bathroom and bedroom. Even the outside "cubbies" smelled bad. Is it a fault with the trailer/blank tank/venting? Or should I be dumping even MORE chemicals in it? I already used quite a few and it did no good ......

Fill up the black tanks with a hose before you dump. If you don't, liquids will drain first leaving the solids. I had the same problems. I starting doing this and had no more problems...

With a flash light see if you can read the model number of the toilet, is it a Dometic 300?

There are well known problems with this unit.

Thanks folks for your responses. We've had trailers/motorhomes for 25 years. Have never experienced this problem before!! That's why I was wondering if it had to do with some fault in the system itself. I will check the type of toilet. I also might call the dealer and see if they've had other complaints about it. They'll likely say "no" though!

By unit I meant the 300 not your trailer.

Sorry if there is some misunderstanding.

Dometic is replacing some 300 models because of smell. If it is a 300 you can call dometic santations and have them check the serial number and they will ship you a replacement if it's one with the smell problem.
