Turns out that the old owner disconnected the propane fridge and tried to cap the old line. Well he didn't do a great job at it so propane was leaking out causing the trailer to smell. I shut off the propane, opened some windows, and turned on a fan. Within an our it smelled 10 times better in the trailer. Now that I know the problem I need to put a shut off valve on the old line or just cap it at the source. Thanks for all your input though.
You're lucky you didn't blow the whole rear end or side out of the trailer and seriously injure or kill someone when the frig tried to start on propane. You need to say a big Thank you to the man upstairs.

That is a seriously scary situation. Be glad you figured it out without incident, and be very thankful.

Shaking my head..so glad you did not get hurt, and you found the problem! Now go to the previous owner, and give him a good kick in the rear!

Do you have a propane detector? It should have gone off if the propane was leaking inside the trailer. If not or if it doesn't work, please get one ASAP. After all it was used and if that is indicative of the work the previous owner did then you want to keep yourself and family safe.

I'm glad you found the propane leak and have it fixed, or will have soon. One question I had and have not read the answer to this: Was the replacement fridge/freezer a "household type" or an "evaporative type" as was in the unit to start with? IF the replacement unit is a household type then you would likely have a pan sitting directly on top of the compressor which catches the water draining off of the evaporator. This water should evaporate from the heat created by the compressor. BUT--sometimes this water will sit when the unit is not running, collects dust, bugs, etc., and will smell terrible when the compressor starts back up again and creates the heat necessary to evaporate the condensate in the pan. I have a problem with a fridge in my shop each summer when bugs/lizards get in there, die off, the water totally evaporates and the compressor literally bakes these bugs/lizards. Really bad smell

Cool Bad Smell?

Tip: Once you get it cleaned up, make certain that all drains have stoppers installed so that when the action of towing sloshes & empties the water from your drain traps, the stopper prevents the sewer gasses from entering the trailer. (Kitchen sink, lavatory & shower, pickup stoppers at your local ACE is the Place or Wally World)

The trailer is at a fixed location so it will not be getting towed. I did however put these stoppers in all the sinks as to prevent any type of smell coming up. I have been trying to clean out the black water tank since I had no idea if the old owner had done it. I placed some of the breakdown chemicals in the tank and let it sit for a week. When I went to go empty it out I could not believe the amount of stuff that was coming out. Truly nasty.

Sorry to say but this is an added bonus with used equipment. Just keep flushing, it may take what seems an inordinate amount of effort but it will be worth it is the long run.

Happy flushing!

Mix the next batch a little stronger and keep repeating it for at least a month or til you get nothing but clear water out, then you have succeeded.
