Black tank brain fart

Well as the bone head I am I left the blank tank flush hooked up for hours. It overflowed out the roof vent but pushed the pipe out of the roof any one know why that would happen and if I should worry about just pushing it back down?

Always wondered what would happen if one did that. Don't have an answer for you. Thought it might come out the toilet. I am so paranoid, I stand and watch it, pushing the gauge button every few seconds till it reads full. I usually have to flush it twice before it registers empty again. Stuff gets stuck on the sensors every time I camp.

Interesting that it pushed to pipe out of the roof. I would research why it came out and where the contents went too.

Never multi-task when doing this task.
You can also monitor tank level by opening flush valve and looking down into tank.
Also never keep your black tank empty. The contents will bridge and get hard. Always keeps a few gallons in tank. If freezing is a concern dump some rv antifreeze into the tank.

Hmmmm. The vent to the roof comes from the black tank, not the toilet. If it pushed up then it must not have been sealed to well to the black tank or the black tank expanded when full and the expansion pushed the pipe up.

You said pushed it back down. Did it seem like it just slid back down or did you have to exert some force? Did you see any evidence of of black water dripping under your RV? I bet your tank expanded due to water pressure and that expansion pushed the exhaust pipe up..

On the plus side you found out your toilet has a good seal both at the floor and bowl. I think the vent may have pushed up some due to the tank expanding. Did the pipe lift the roof material or tear free? either way check the seal around the pipe at the roof.

Wow, came out the vent on the roof.

Once I left mine on while i was cleaning up and I was keeping track of it until a friend came over and start chatting and then i forgot about it. I was standing next to my out door sink and I heard a bubbling sound and I stopped and had no idea what was happening but then the sink started filling up, OH NO and i take off running to shut off the water. The sink did over flow just a little bit, my outdoor sink is hoked to the black i found out then. Needless to say the outdoor kitchen got fully sanitized that go round of cleaning up. DW still nags me about that opps. I'm just glad it didn't come out on the inside somewhere.

When I back flush I always start a timer on my phone for 5 minutes. Your time maybe different.

Thanks for all the replies it just popped the cap off the vent no major damage. I siliconed it back up. It did push back down very easily so I'm going with the theory that the tank expanded as well!!

I would still try to inspect the vent pipe attach point if able at tank.
