Black Tank Flush

My black tank has the interior jets that flush the tank. My question is how long should I run the water to get a good flush.

I run mine until the water running out is clear. I put a clear plastic extension on the drain so I can watch what is coming out. See other threads about how to prep for draining the tank. some use a soap solution or soap and bleach, and drive a bit before draining.

First thing is get a clear discharge elbow and open the valve and run the flush until the water is clear. Will take from 5 to 15 minutes depending on how long it has been since it was flushed before. Try to dump the black tank when it is at least 2/3 full.

A clear 45 or 90 degree elbow is the way to go so you have a "window" to see what is going on. Mine has the bayonet connection on each side and goes between the outlet and the hose. Flush till the water is clear and you are good to go.

When flushing the black tank, is it better to close the dump valve and let the tank fill for a few minutes or leave the dump valve open during the flushing process?

I like to fill it up a bit with the flush going, dump it and repeat a couple times.

My camper has a warning sticker under the turboflush hose inlet that prohibits running the flusher with the dump valve closed.

I am sure the reason has to to with over-pressuring a full tank.

Having said that, once I dump completely, I turn on the turboflusher; run it till it is clear; then while the flusher is still running, I close the valve for about 30 seconds and re-open it. I do that three of four times, just to make sure. I then close the valve before I shut off the water to the turboflush. That puts a few gallons of clean water in the black tank.

Then I go inside and add a full capful of Calgon water softener and a capful of laundry soap to the black tank through the toilet.

Mine has the same warning. I too think its because of pressure build up in the tank.

The tanks are vented,no pressure. Over fill will exit on the roof or open water closet valve. Youroo!!

Thanks Youroo, I suppose the warning is to just make sure the tank is empty before running the flush system.

Wishing our 2011 Sunseeker had a black tank flush. Why aren't they standard? Is it something we could/should add?

cllecr, you could check Camping World web site. I think they sell kits to add to the tank. I'm sure others on here will have the answer.

Attached water line to the outside black tank flush, no sound of running water. Disconnected the water. Went inside to the bathroom and found flush assembly underneath sink where lines are connected to a check valve assembly. Wanted to see what this piece of equipment was and low and behold, found cold water line connected to discharge side of check valve!!!!!

Buy yourself a "Tornado" tank flusher. Very easy to install if you can access your tanks and worth every penny. I would not be without one. No more dragging hoses into the camper with your "wand."

Agree, it will probably exit at the base of the stool as those gaskets are sure not made for pressure from the tank or anywhere else. Would be a nasty mess.
