Black tank smell

We have a 2013 Grey Wolf 26bh. We have noticed that when we open the lid to the toilet there is stench from the black tank. I'm assuming this is due to the gas from the black tank. Is this common or is the vent for the tank most likely blocked? I have not had a chance to get on the roof and check. The temperature here has been in the 90's consistently during the day and I have added more toilet treatment as the directions stated to do while using the black tank in temperatures over 85 degrees. It has not helped at all.

Did you add any water when you put in the extra treatment?
Are you using it or is it parked and empty?

Have you put in the black tank "treatments"?
If not, it will smell no matter what you do.
I personally use the dry packets that you can get a walmart.

We are using it. Yes I put in extra water when I put in the treatments. It's the kind like you get at walmart that are measured out in the individual bottles. I believe they are made by Camco.

Exhaust fan on with door closed? That would make it ripe!

Ok, for in use how much water are you leaving in the bowl?
Little water will help keep the gas down.

We have had the door closed and it did get a little warm inside. We are leaving the door open now and it seems to help. We will also leave a little more water in the bowl.

Try turning the vent fan off when not in use.

If there is water in the bowl, it should not stink regardless of whether the fan is on or off. I suspect he has one of the messed up toilets that are being replaced.

What make and model toilet? Could be the seals. Dometic 300's are notorious for bad seals and they modified the unit and will send out a replacement. "gunk" gets stuck up under the toilet base and doesn't get rinsed out. Could be the problem;

I had a similar problem with my 2013 Coachmen Mirada 35DL. Turned out the black tank vent pipe was just glued to the top of the black tank and never inserted into the tank. I found it by filling the vent pipe with water from the roof. This method will also loosen up any obstruction that may be in the pipe if yours is built right but obstructed.

sounds like the 300 toilet problem. the smell probably gets worse if you put your nose near the back of the toilet where its open, thats where the water gets trapped on the 300 series

Black tank smell

Our new 2014 195bh had a 300 that leaked on our second trip.I called and they overnight end me a new one. Easy to install. Look for the serial number and call the maker of the toilet....they will tell you if you have one that falls in the list....she would not send me one the first time I called because it wasn't leaking yet. So it wasn't a " warranty " issue at that time. The next weekend we went camping and sure enough.....we got back home and I checked it..there was the standing " stuff" inside the bowl clam shell...I was so mad when I saw it. The dealer said "never heard of them leaking or having an issue". When I asked the service manager if they would give me credit for the brand new one I was getting in the mail and I would buy his best one he had in the dealer (ceramic, more sturdy)....he laughed and said "heck no, I don't want one of those on my shelf".

Happy camping.
