Black Tank Vent Pipe Problem?

Hey everyone New to posting but have been lurking in for a while. I have a 2018 Wolf Pup 17RR Toy Hauler. Came back from a 8 day camp and noticed the black tank vent pipe cover was pulled loose so I just figured the wind pulled it back. Went to put the cover for the winter on Monday and took a closer look. Some how the vent pipe pushed the cover up with enough force to bust a hole in it. Being in a hurry, I pushed the pipe back down about 2 inches and taped a plastic bag over it. Now all I think about is how the pipe got pushed up out of the tank. The tank was full for a 80 mile trip and I had a golf cart in the back. I have replaced tanks before and know how they mount into the tank. Any ideas of how the pipe was pushed up? I have all winter to think about it and I do plan on keeping it a couple more years so a good fix will be needed. Right now my plan is to run a scope down the pipe and make sure it seated in the tank. The only fix I can think of is cutting a hole in the wall by the vent and see if I can glue it. The only access to the pipe is under the bed in the storage compartment. Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. Until you borescope the pipe its hard to tell what happened. It could be that as the tank flexed being full of liquid during the trip pulled the pipe loose. good luck let the forum know what you fine.

That is what I figured happened. Caught a bad bounce and popped the pipe out of the tank sending it upward on the rebound. I just have never heard of one doing that before. I have about 5 months to think about it before I uncover it. I just hate to cut a wall to reglue it back in to the tank

I don't know about that unit, but some units use an o-ringed adapter that the vent pipe slides into so it's not glued into the tank. Is it possible that yours is like that and just popped out of the adapter?

Does you black tank drop from underneath? If so, that might answer your question about the way the vent is attached to it once you drop the tank. If you need to access the tank I would think going through the bottom would be better than cutting a hole in the side. Let us know how it works out.

Well I got my education in modern black tanks. The tank on my Wolf Pup is free floating and travels up and down about a inch. The only thing holding it down is the toilet drop and the vent pipe and both just slide into a rubber garment. Factory guy said this is so you can replace the tanks easier. The fix to keep the vent pipe in place is to not drive with anything in the tank. With any weight in it, a upward bounce will cause the whole tank to raise up and not pivot in the middle where the pipe is attached. He said it is a common problem and will even happen sometimes with a empty tank. To fix it I have to lay under the camper and watch as someone pushes the pipe in making sure it only goes in about a 1/2 inch. After you get the pipe the right depth, you reseal the top making it solid. To me this is a very poor design and another reason I will be building my own toy hauler in a couple years.
