I see a lot of people saying this, but I think it's only cheaper if you already have the stuff to make one. If somebody is starting from scratch, it's not necessarily cheaper.

The wand's only $8.22 on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Camco-40103-H...lack+tank+wand

And similar, $8.22 on Walmart:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Camco-Hol...inser/14504325

When you factor in everything you need to make your own, aside from the pipe, end caps, threaded ends, shutoffs, a container of glue/cement, saw, sandpaper, and especially time involved.... I have trouble figuring out how they're cheaper.

That is likely true for some folks. I only had the primer and solvent on hand. I did get a 10% military discount. So total was $7.35. Since I was already at the store for other items, I won't count the gas cost.
Ultimately, it was about being able to make my own and the learning experience is priceless.

Got the idea from a YouTube video. I slightly altered the order of the parts and used a pvc valve to make it lighter.

Oh, no doubt. I'm also for DIY. Never doubted it was 'better' to make your own, just questioning how people can say it's 'cheaper' when the wands are already pretty cheap.

$10 bucks at Walmart in the RV section...

Was already there and the time it took to rip the packaging tag off (maybe a 1,000,000th of a second...PRICELESS!

Hardly ever use it anymore since I now have a built-in tank flush setup...but keep it handy just in case!

I had everything on hand also except for the valve so it was cheaper for me. I have a black tank flush now too but still use the wand once in a while to try to get all the corners clean.

Dang I set off a firestorm. Yes they are cheap at waly world and Amazon. I saw them. They are cheaply made in the sence that you can make one that is more durable and effective than store bought. I drilled 6 jet holed. Store bought doesn't have that.

One thing I may change is to add a threaded bottom portion. So that the "head" can be swapped for other versions based on type of waste being dealt with. Or just improved versions.
This was a simple 4 holes drilled at different angles to hit all areas of the tank. My first use of it resulted in a much cleaner tank.
