Replacing the valve is chap and fairly easy. Even with working valves, I still use the Valterra external screw-on valve, just as insurance. After watching someone else get covered in black tank sludge, when their valve quit working, I vowed to never have that happen to me.

Yes, get this valve, it eliminates nasty surprises.

CWMB called me today and said to being the unit in. That's about 2.5 hours each way, but I want the valve fixed, so I'm doing it.

I ordered the Valterra T58 Twist-On Waste Valve yesterday and I'll receive it tomorrow. Cheap insurance!

Best of luck. Hoping it gets repaired to your satisfaction.

Thank you all for your help.
You WILL know much more about this when you are finished solving the trouble.

Then you can advise the next poster of what worked for you and how to accomplish the fix.

Id put in my two cents but it wold not be anything that has not already been said here in this thread.

Having done hundreds of repairs on holding tanks and valves , that is not normal. Whom ever works on your unit will find the slide valve seal either damaged or most likely they will find tissue caught in the slider groove preventing the valve from sealing.

Maybe pull up as close as you can to the main walk in entrance, pull your valve open, and show them the "normal leakage" they spoke of ?

JK - Hope they take care of it for you !

Good point! It's not worth taking a full day and about 250 miles round trip just to get them to repair a valve they should have repaired before I took possession.

I can deal with the black water problem using the Valtera T58, then I can find someone else to repair or replace the faulty valve at a more convenient location and time.

The Valtera T58 looks like a very easy fix,,, as long as there is room for one !!!

Obviously you want the valve fixed, but also consider adding a clear elbow where the slinky hooks up. Then you can see anything that might be waiting to surprise you when you remove the cap.

Again you have to have room to add all this extra stuff ???
I think if I were to try to add a valve & an clear elbow to our Sunseeker,,, I would be past the opening where the hose comes in !!!

When I had a valve leaking, I found that there wasn't enough of the center wire sticking out of the cable wrapping/sheath to allow enough movement to close the valve. I had to trim at least 1/2" of the outer sheath off to get enough inner wire 'travel' to close the valve.

You don't 'have' to do anything. Just a suggestion to the OP, cause as he found out s____ does happen. If your valve is on the outside space is not an issue.

Your absolute right Indy,,, but many of us have valves inside a compartment !!!
Our old Flagstaff TT,,, the dump valves were so low I can not believe we never ripped then off !!! At times they almost touched the ground !!!

Hi,

My drain outlet is pretty close to the side of the trailer, and after I added a Valterra blade valve for extra protection, there was even less room.

So I don't leave the transparent fitting on continuously. I store it in the same container I use for the grey plastic elbow fitting that fits up to the end of my hose.

And yes, I wonder how I ever really knew what was going on during a tank dump before I had the transparent fitting.

FWIW.
