Black water tank cleaning?

Maybe a silly question, but I read on several sites, when you clean your black water tank with a flush wand that to unhook from city water and fresh water tank pump off, now none of these have anything to do with the black water system, someone enlighten me, it's got me scratching my head???

Why unhook from city water, or turn fresh water pump off? I can understand if the city water hookup is your only source of water to hook your flush wand to, ok, but why turn the fresh water pump off?

Read it again. If you use a garden hose, turn off your water for the RV. Not really needed. Re read it a couple times to understand. Only thing wrong with what is said is It Is A Holding Tank period, not a septic tank.

So it's to keep the water from running in the toilet while your trying to flush the black tank, lol, I am still having a hard time thinking TT , it's a different way of living but it is a new adventure, I am enjoying our new home.

I do mine with a wand and the water is on. Only thing to remember is water and lots of it is your friend when it comes to a black tank.

I'm learning, my water level sensors are not working proper, have read you can clean the tank and the next time or so after you have cleaned the black tank the sensors will be not working proper again. I am trying to figure how many days before I need to dump again so there is plenty of water to keep it functioning right.

If you can look into your tank through the opening you can tell or when it starts getting full, when you flush, you will get a bubble, time to dump. Start out with about 5 gal. of water and use plenty of water. Drain black then gray to clean dump hose.
