Black water tank has 2 valves?

Can anyone tell me why the black water tank on my forest river 392 fktb has two valves for the black water? One is right behind the axles and the other is at the discharge pipe where they normally are.

If not new the previous owner may have installed it.

Does it have 1 1/2 bathes? If so, it'll have a second black tank for the 1/2 bath.

Thanks for the quick reply. It only has one bath. The second valve is in the same line as the one at the connector to the sewer.

Just guessing. The original leaked and it was easier to install the second one....

Can you ask the past owner?

If it has 2 grey tanks the previous owner probably installed it. That's what I did. You leave the end valve closed and open the 2 grey tank valves and it combines the grey tanks.

Do you have tank heaters? If yes, it is probably to keep the discharge line empty so it won't have to be heated also.

I do not have tank heaters and I am not sure if the previous owner installed it, so I guess I just have two valves lol! I appreciate everyone's advice!

When we purchased our 2013 grey wolf new from the dealer, it came with 2 black water valves. I asked why there is two and the dealership had no idea why only my trailer had two. So it's possible that forest river installed 2 for whatever reason! I don't have any tank heaters either.

Some times "like mine"
they use the same frame and tanks for various models.
Case in point.

My unit has two black tanks because they used they same tank and frame combo from another floor plan which had a full bath and a 1/2 bath.

Since my unit doesn't have the 1/2 bath it has a bunk house and a outside kitch.

My outside kitchen uses that 1/2 bath black tank.

so I have a 35 gallon capacity "black" tank for my outside kitchen sink that maybe gets 2 gallon ran into it.

I see two possibilities:

1) FR plumbed it that way, because they reuse parts from other rigs that have a need for it.

2) One of the previous owners installed it, because they either didn't like the location of the FR installed valve (behind the tires?) or because they once forgot to close that one and opened a pipe full of mess, so installed the second to avoid that in the future.

my XLR Viper also has two black tank drain valves. I assume that maybe there would be too much weight in the pipe as my bath is on the opposite side from the drain. (Looks like it would hold 7-8 gallons). I know it is a PIA to get too. going to put in electric valve this winter.

my 2014 XLR Thunderbolt has 2 black tank drain valves as well

Since the 1st one is behind the wheels, I just leave it open. I suppose there are a few gallons in the line, but it's so hard to get to, I just leave it alone.

Well the saga of the two valves continues. It appears that there is something wrong with that valves behind the wheels. It looks like it has been worked on before because the bolts are rusted and there is some type of white adhesive around the pipe.

I have a blockage there. I noticed it when dumping my blackwater tank. I heard it quit draining and I looked inside and there was still alot of sewage in the tank. I went underneath and pushed up on the tank and there is plenty in there! It was sloshing aroung real good!.

I took off the discharge hose and ran a snake "up" the pipe and it seemed to stop at that valve. I tried to run a hose up there to flush it out, but it stops there as well. I think the valve evne though it looks open, is not, or only partially open.

Problem is, my tank is full and I need to cut off that valve! I can get the honey dipper at our campsite and try and Pump it out through the toilet I think. Is that the best way?

Also, is there an easy way to "piece" in a new piece of pipe? I really dont want to disconnect everything at the place where it all comes out.

I think it is just black 3" sewer pipe and I would only need to fill in where the valve is, but how do I get couplers on there since everything is tight?

Any help will REALLy be appreciated. I am going to tackle this on Wednesday.
