Bug ate hole in my Viper Sewer Hose

I purchase the Viper Sewer Hose Kit because this forum said it was one of the best systems, including the fact that it is crush proof. What I didn't expect was a cicada, in shedding it's shell, gripped on the center portion of the hose and punctured it.

I cannot find a realistic way to patch this hole, while maintaining the ability to compress the hose for storage. Any suggestions?

I think a 5 minute 2 part Epoxy might work if you work it into the tiny holes before it hardens.

I love Flex steel. If you are using the spray/liquid, first attach a patch over the hole and let dry. Then use the Flex steel. The tape is a bit thick and may not flex enough to fold the hose as it did when new. Also allow each to "set up time" and make sure that they are firmly pressed onto the hose.

Thank you. I did that, and although it stopped the leak, and plugged the hole, it came undone when I put the hose away, probably because the gray part of the hose is so flexible between the red ridges.

I am next going to try a sealant glue from a hot gun. It was also suggested that I collapse the two red ridges together trapping the hole in between, and glue those ridges together.

Collapsing and gluing the ridges together sounds like the best suggestion.

A cicada? That's one tough bug. Probably thought your hose was a tree.....

Have you by chance been storing Viper hose in the rear bumper tube.

I have used Shoe Goo and then Gorilla Tape over it. We were in the middle of a 6 week trip. It held for trip and has held for 6 months, still working. Do not cut and try to patch hose w/ a connector, connector is too big for hose.

There is no tube on your 5th wheel. A lot of us have a rear bumper.. my 33IK does but it does not have the nice molded rear end like your unit,

Thank you, I should have said on mine. I use a large Rubbermaid container that I can put in all my hoses and hose parts. Very convenient, fits nicely in my basement.

With a story as unusual as this one, why don't you contact the manufacturer and tell them your tale of woe, and ask them what you can do to fix the problem? Suggest that there might be a problem that they would want to have their R & D people check out so it doesn't happen to somebody else. They might just give you a new one to foster "customer good will".

NOT TRUE.....yours may not, but that is not true of ALL 5ers.......

We have a rear bumper that is a 4" square tube, and we store an extra for emergencies pair of cheap drain hoses in it.

We also have caps on it that will not allow any bug larger than a gnat inside the bumper.

So, why the question about bumpers was asked is that rust can and will form inside the tube (more or less based on the climate and salt content of the air). That rust and road vibration can wear holes in a sewer hose stored inside.

There is also this potential issue …
