Do you have the link? All I can find now is 2 bottles for about US$30 including shipping to my place near Toronto.

Since I'll already be in the U.S., I can drive to Watertown, NY (28 miles away) and buy Calgon liquid for US$5.34 per bottle.

Shipping to up here would be a lot more convenient.

Never mind. I found that you can order it on Walmart.com and they'll ship it to the border for US$5.99 for 3 bottles. That's cheaper than I can drive the 56 mile round trip plus the extra US$3 for the bridge toll. I'll be able to pick it up with my other shipments at the Kinek Point.

Anywhere in that price range is OK with me. I have a Niagara Falls warehouse but shipping to home is so much better.
I am west of TO and a trip into US is at least 3 hours return. Another year I would wait until a camping trip down but have no plans for that this year.

Interesting. Thanks. I’ve never seen Calgon in a gel format. Since the bottle volume on the label is in millilitres I wonder if they’ll start selling it in stores up here again.

That's a bargain. I bought 2 bottles in 2016 from amazon.com and with taxes, duty and freight it was around $70 CDN.

Total cost is US$23.77 for the 3 bottles plus the US$5 it’ll cost to hold the package at the border, so around CDN$37. Don’t know what the taxes and duty will be though. Probably push it to around CDN$42 or CDN$14 per bottle.

Why, then, did you tell me to start at the original post if there is no real answer? What made you assume I hadn’t read the entire thread? Why didn’t you just tell me nobody knows? Itat....regarding 'gel'. The bottle says gel however the contents are liquid - slightly thick. about the consistency of maple syrup.

I've always used the powder version. I've never tried the liquid because they only sold the powder up here when it was available. They discontinued it everywhere in 2016. This is the first time I'll be getting it from the U.S. and the liquid seems to be more common there, at least online.

Looks like your cost was around $14 per bottle too, so as long as what you bought is exactly the same concentration and unit price, it would be easier to do what you did and buy it on Amazon.ca.

I just reviewed the link and I found it interesting that only the traditional powder and 32 oz. liquid use the words "water softener" on the packaging. The gel and tablet don't actually say water softener. I wonder are they all actually the same product?

Dave, check the 4th picture from the top. The label does say water softener. On the back it talks about removing limescale and says its "Made in E.U." Looks like a product from the U.K. It claims it "neutralizes residue and helps prevent build up". It's marketed as a product to clean the washing machine rather than for whitening your clothes. It may be a different formula that accomplishes the same thing without the phosphates? Just my guess.

I told you I would find out why Calgon is not sold in Canada. Well, I sent an email to their parent company minutes after I told you that. I finally got a response from them yesterday. Here it is.

Well, you tried Bruce. Somebody here mentioned phosphates....maybe that's it.

I use dollar store laundry detergent, fabric softener lestoill . 30/30/30 then split with water in half. My black tank has never been cleaner.
