Camping in Freezing weather
Sure, you can use the old trick of leaving your cold water faucet running (or taking your hose in for the night). But for the RV'er who does a significant amount of cold weather camping, this is just the ticket!

I honestly did not know they made these until I ran across it today (and I have been RVing for over 20 years  )
I ALSO know you better do a LOT of cold weather camping to justify this baby ($160 for a 25' hose  )

Heated hoses work very well. We have 2 for watering the horses in the stable and in the field. Worthy investment.

Or just shut off and drain your hose overnight.
Or HomeDebit has 30' heat tape for $40.
Just wrap it around your current fresh hose and tape in place with
good ole duct tape or electrical tape.
Cheaper than $160 from Amazon....
We dry camp in freezing weather. Heat water on the stove for dish washing.
Make coffee in a stove top percolator and then re-fill it with clean water.
Let that heat while we have breakfast.

Not useful if you dry camp or boondock in freezing weather.

We want to camp in freezing weather also, but need to know if water lines are protected if we heat the interior and use water from our tank and 12V pump? We can dry camp almost any state park here in Missouri as long as we can get 30amp electric. Anyone know, from experience what temps are safe for waterlines in the Salem Ultra-lites.

If temps are going below freezing I fill fresh tank and use it with pump until the temps warm up. Roll up hose for the night in the heated storage. Tank warmers prevent freezing of tank contents.

They only work if the CG line doesn't freeze. Last year camped next to guy from Alaska(who knows cold camping), he had a heated hose, I took my hose off and stored it used my tank. In the morning we both got water at around 11:00 AM. but I also had water to make coffee he didn't. Won't do any good if the CG line is not protected. His high dollar hose did dip. So much for paying for a heated hose. Even if you wrap the riser at the CG the one that is not will cause the whole line to freeze. Military bases are the only CG's that I found that will let you drip water and make's everyone do it. If a space is empty they crack the bib open. Private CG'S say do not drip water. All that atleast I have been to......

Due to a couple of below freezing camp trips where the campground spicket froze, I passed on the heated water hose though it would be nice otherwise.

Bought a 25ft heat-tape from lowes $30.00. Foam pipe insulation $15.00. A little left over duct tape.... Not quite the $100.00 but it works!

My tanks are exposed . Do they not freeze if somewhat full? I guess it would have to stay in the 20s for a couple days to freeze 20 or 30 gallons in my tanks enough to bust any thing? Someone mentioned a tank heater. Don't rightly know what that is but will check it out.

Sorry Bruce. My rockwood, and many other units, came with attached heating pads for cold weather camping.

We stay in our trailer, Prime Time Avenger with the extended weather package, for four days in which the weather was below freezing, during a cold front that blew in, and had no problems with fresh water tank and lines freezing. A good test.

Planning on doing some winter camping next winter. CG turns water off in winter so will have to bring my supply. My question is...if I blow the lines when I leave and add antifreeze will I be ok for two weeks of northern PA weather while I'm gone? The belly is covered but not heated. Have abducted heat vents in the trailer. Don't really want to but should I leave the furnace running while I'm gone for the 2 week intervals? Thanks for your advice!

Fully winterize and then don't worry about the tanks. When I winter camp I take a bottle of antifreeze to flush the toilet for any midnight use, then use the heated campground restroom the rest of the time, including showers. Water is kept in gallon jugs. I keep a dish pan in the kitchen sink to catch any water that might otherwise go down the drain and that gets dumped in the bushes.
