Can wind cause water heater problems?

Hello all.
Yesterday and today, we experienced something new. We turned on the switch for the propane to kick on the water heater, we heard the tick and light, and went on about our business. Five minutes later, the little light comes on and we hear the tick and light again. Ten minutes later, it happens again. We think, oh crap, we're gonna blow up! So we turned it off and skipped showers yesterday. Checked the propane, seemed a little low, but not empty by any means, so we refilled it.
This morning, almost the same thing. Switch, tick, light, fine. Five minutes later, tick, light. Then it didn't happen again. Hubby took a shower, everything was fine. Waited the 30 minutes for the water heater to recover, hubby goes to work, I take a shower. About half way through, I hear the tick and light about three times! God please don't let me blow up while I'm in the shower!
Come on here, find lots of good info. Tried a few things. I'll give it a while to see if it worked. Meanwhile, I was wondering if the wind could be blowing the light out? It is super windy here today and the wind is blowing directly at the side of the TT where the water heater is.
Thoughts?

I've had situations with our previous TT where the wind blew the pilot out. Most likely the cause IMHO.

With the wind blowing directly to the side of your water heater then that is probably your problem. When this happens I will use the electric side of the water heater only.

BTW from your description your water heater is probably DSI (direct spark ignition). No pilot light.

After thinking about it .........
the gas tube could in fact be dirty as well and causing your problem.
you're dh should check it for debris.

Could be the wind or the gas orifice partially plugged. I have experienced both. Usally the wind here in Wyoming!

The wind will cause this problem. My BIL has a brand new (last summer) Spree with a DSI heater, it is in the back of the trailer and he always parks at our place with the rear of the trailer facing west. Of course the prevailing winds come from the NW so when it is windy he has had issues numerous times with the unit blowing out.
