Can't fill fresh tank all of the way
Hi All,
I recently had a need to use my fresh tank for the first time and ran in to a problem. When the tank was a little over half full, water started coming out of the overflow. Even after I stopped filling the tank, water continued from the overflow, almost as if it were siphoning from the tank. I eventually lost about half of the water. Does anyone know how the overflow is connected to the tank? Is it just inserted in to the tank through a hole, possibly too far resulting in my problem? Can I put a valve on the overflow line or is it also used as a vent? Even better, is there some sort of backflow preventer I could install?
Thanks,
Rob

Sounds like it might not be vented properly. Still under warranty ???

If your Wildwood is like mine there is no overflow but there is a vent. It is a 1/2 inch hose from the top of the tank to a small vent hole next to the fill cap. Mine was crimped where it exited the tank. When I filled the tank it would build up air pressure and then blow water back out of the fill hose. The fix was to install a 90 degree elbow to remove the crimp.

Al, That's what I'm thinking. Maybe the vent tube is inserted too low in to the tank. It would explain what I'm seeing. The question is, what's involved to reposition the tube. It's not under warranty anymore, so I'm on my own.
Woody, there is no vent on my fill cap. There's a hole, but it's not connected to anything. This leads me to wonder if the overflow is also the vent.

That sounds like the vent tube, but laying loose. Follow it and see if you can

I have a 2016 wildwood heritage glen that I am taking back to the dealer to fix deficiencies. I have the same problem with my fresh water tank, but it only fills 1/3 before it starts to overflow out the hose coming out the bottom of the tank. while on vacation, we called the dealer and he suggested that ther might be water in the line that is just being pushed out.. his suggestion was to keep filling until the inside meter said Full. even though ti may be emptying out the bottom. So, we did as they recommended. Once it hit full, we turned off the tap and the over flow continued to drain until the the meter said 1/3 full..
we think the overflow drain connection might have been installed too low on the tank or the the overflow hose is 2/3 into the tank and is acting a siphon. In 2 weeks the dealer will have to drop the belly pan and take a look at it...

Jeff, That sounds exactly like mine. I'm curious to know how they fix this. Can you post an update afterwards?

Your really need a vent from the tank so you won't build up too much presure when filling. Think what I would do is install a new vent by drilling a new hole and sealing a new vent on tank and closing off the old one. Sounds like your tube has been installed too low to me.

Cannot fill fresh water tank
I had the same problem on my 5w. I discovered the vent was crimped. The air being displaced in the tank by water needs some place to go. If it cannot escape, water will rush back thru the only opening and make it appear that the tank is full. You will probably find that your vent tube from the tank is disconnected from the vent hole by the filler or there is no tube at all.

Me too
My 2016 26rr had a 90* screwed into the fresh water tank with 3" of hose hooked to it. Long story short. I ran a hose from the tank 90 to the tank vent above the filler cap. There was sealer goop in the in said vent..

n0ms, my vent hole has sealer in it too. I'm going to try to connect a new vent to it.

We have the 241QBXL and had the exact same problem. I simply plugged up the overflow tube and now the tank fills completely full. We've been using it this way for nearly 2 years now without issue and we always travel with a full tank.

Water tank vent
I had the same prob on our PU. Discovered the screen on the opening of the vent pipe was gone and some type of insect built a condo in the vent. Cleanout corrected the problem.

Oh Oh. On my new 5w i noticed I ran out of water quickly. Maybe my tank didn't fill it up all the way? It called my attention that water was coming back from the vent after not too much time filling it up....

Lost water from fresh water tank.
I had a similar problem. Filled my water tank until water was running out of overflow. I checked the tank and it was full. When I got to my campsite I checked again and tank was only 1/3 full. I thought I had a leak, but couldn't find any. Does the overflow hose go down in the tank and is it possible my water was siphoned out?
