city water connection

Went for the first time out this past weekend. When I went to connect the water hose, I noticed the washer on the RV hose connection was partially out. As I was pushing it in to try and reseat it, the pump fired up and started pumping water out of the city connection. I turned the pump off and the hose supplied water from then on with no problem. When we were off the hose I had to put a valve there to keep the pump from pumping water out.

The washer has a screen attached to it...Did I push the screen into a check valve? Any help for a fix would be appreciated.

I think you pushed screen in too far and it is holding the check valve open.

There is a check valve in the City Water Inlet that prevents water from being pumped OUT that inlet when using the water pump.

Normally a plastic valve with a spring that you can see behind the washer with screen on the City Water Inlet.

It sounds like the Check Valve stem has broken.

Your city water supply will work fine if it is broke, and you can still use the water pump IF you cap off the City Water Inlet. However, it sounds as if the City Water Inlet connect needs to be replaced. I've never seen on that was "repairable" when this happens.

My City water washer/screen is convex out. Is it possible you reversed the washer/screen and its pushing on the check valve? Those water inlet assemblies are fairly easy to replace if need be.

I would have never thought of that. Good call. I'll definitely add that to the list of got-cha's.
