City Water Inlet location

I have a 2008 Sierra 255RLS 5th Wheel. So far we are mostly pleased with the build quality and features.

One thing about the trailer that mystifies me is the location on the city water inlet. It is just above the left side pass-thru storage door. So when a hose is connected I need to route the hose around the door to gain access. And, when connected, the door cannot be latched in the open position, even when I use a 90 degree fitting.

The dealer checked with Forrest River - FR just said it is installed according to the build plan. Case closed.

So, the question is can I relocate the inlet without screwing up the system. The trailer's water filter is located in the front of the pass-thro on the same side. Seems like I can just drill through the sidewall in front of the door and everything would still work.

The city water inlet should tee into the discharge line of the pump and then go through the filter so moving the fitting shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not familiar with the unit so, is the front toward the water heater of the electrical outlet?

Either case just be careful of electrical or plumbing in the area.

You can move it but I would worry about cutting a structural member
or wires in the process.
If FR would fax you or your dealer a copy of the wall framing
plan for that area of your trailer that would be awesome.
Knowing that I was not going to hit and cut a stud would give me
a lot more confidence in punching a new hole in my trailer.

One of our members (Radio) was cutting a hole in his floor
for a ham radio antenna wire and darn near cut thru the main
bundle of wires going to his power panel!
At least I think it was something like that.

Do be careful when you cut that hole.
Proceed carefully with the first exploratory hole.
Just punch thru the --inside-- skin and then look inside for anything
you don't want to hit before making the hole larger and penetrating
both inside and outside surfaces. That way if you are going
to hit something you can stop before making an unwanted
hole in the outside skin!

Thanks for the responses. I'll double check before I drill. The water filter is located in the front of the pass-thru compartment away from any electrical of other components. Hopefully lowering the inlet a coulp of feet won't be an issue. At any rate i think I wait till the 1 year warranty period is up just in case...

Couldn't you mount a J-hook on the top portion of the water heater frame.



Use the 90° connector at the water inlet, then lay the hose in the J-hook. This would hold the water hose out of the way of your compartment door.
