Cleaning brass pluming fittings

All of my brass fittings (Regulator, 45 Degree, 90 Degree, Splitter) are showing the effects of hard water from use. There's spots that are turning white, and some darker spots. What is the best way to clean these fittings so that they don't look quite so gross?

Use some Brasso on the outside of the brass.
