Comet to clean toilet

Somebody probably used my trailer and didn't flush the toilet leaving the nasty line around the rim. So I used comet to clean it this morning. Is it safe?

Comet is probably OK and since you already did it, I guess it's too late anyway. Just make sure to rinse well so the grit of the comet is not hanging around down at the seal.

I think I would lean more to the use of Soft Scrub or something similar. I don't know if that's what you meant by safe but it would be better on the finish.

You probably scratched the surface and it will now be a constant source of retaining yuck. I would suggest get a good PLASTIC polish and try polishing the area you scrubbed with Comet. Comet/Ajax/Babbo, etc should not be used on anything plastice such as toilets, sinks, lavatories, refrigerators,countertops or stove tops in a camper. Best thing is to leave those cleaning supplies in the house. Just my experience.

Yeah, what dunnc says... I guess I should have asked if you had the plastic or the porcelain type of toilet. I assumed porcelain. I wouldn't use comet on anything but porcelain/ceramic.

You don't say if you have a plastic or porcelain toilet.
I would never use scouring powder on anything plastic as it will likely scratch it.
IF it looks good now don't stress on it.
Wait and see if you have any more problems.

FYI we have discovered ours will mildew while in storage unless we leave
the lid raised. It only takes a couple weeks to do this in warm weather so part
of our routine before we walk out the door until next time is,
check toilet seat up
fridge doors propped open so it can dry and not mildew
and battery switch off.

I think the toilet is plastic. I saw the comet and it says "non scratch"

two words - magic eraser. Works fabulous on our cheap plastic sinks and I think it would do a terrific job on a plastic toilet as well. just cut one in half and use it for the dirty deed and then throw it away. I've had success with them from the dollar store, but they will fall apart a bit faster than the name brands.

As a former plastic model builder I found that good old fashioned (not the new fangled stuff) toothpaste (I used Baking Soda type) will polish plastic smooth quite well.

I was able to remove a small glue smear from a clear plastic canopy I spent hours vacuforming with this technique.
