Perfect! I noticed that the flange is cracked when I removed the toilet, so hopefully Lowes or Home Depot will have the replacement parts...

thats 3'' abs pipe + 45 deg. 3'' ell . you need a 4'' by 3'' closet flange that will glue into your new 45deg ell. then a short 3'' pipe + go into a 3'' fernco rubber coupling to the stub of 3'' abs pipe . you may only find pvc white pipe + fittings . the rubber coupling will help you line up your new piping if offset alittle . put some dish soap on the inside of the coupling when lining up . good luck . you need pvc glue + cleaner

3" as Fred says and not 4" as someome else stated.
I would cut at the vertical pipe coming out of the floor and would cut 4" down from the hub of the 45* elbow.
They installed that lower elbow too high originally, they realized that so they shortened the pipe running at the angle to compensate and then forced the whole mess together. That is why the upper elbows is not at a true 45* angle to the flange itself. I also agree with connecting it to the existing with the "fernco" clamp on fitting.
Just dry fit everything to make sure it all fits and aligns then take it back apart and glue it, take your time.

My most profound gratitude to both of you...will head to Home Depot as soon as I perform the amputation and will report results thereafter.

Hi everybody… Just wanted to let you all know about the progress of the leak repair.
I removed the toilet, installed and bolted to the floor A new flange, and was trying to dry fit the two 45s and the rubber sleeve to the existing pipe. As you can see from the pictures, the new installation and the old pipe are so far apart that I don't see how they could be matched up. Any suggestions any of you may have as to how I can remedy this certainly would be appreciated. Meantime I am going nuts!

Amish plumbing I suppose.
The material is ABS by the way.
I would pull the toilet and install a new toilet flange, a solvent weld female with a short stub of pipe. I would cut the 45 fitting off and re plumb the line so it turns and aligns with the stub coming from the flange, then I would connect those with a 3" shielded fernco coupling.

you may have to cut the stand pipe now to lower the 45 . check angles and make sure it will work before cutting . . I'll look at the pics again and see if i notice anything else

Also you can use two flex repair couplings [fernco is just a brand name] and the pipe does not need to touch when using the "fernco" that will allow some play .

Got it...back to Home Depot for another rubber fitting then I'll see if I can envision an alignment before I start hacking the stand pipe. Does anyone know if the rubber fittings come in longer than 3" lengths?

Forget about the 45s and go to a plumbing supply house and buy two 60s. That'll get you where you want to be. And if you're lucky, they may even have a couple of street 60s that might come in useful. If they do, buy all four and you will have it made.

What are "street sixties"? I assume they are "elbows" that turn 60 degrees, but why are they called "street sixties? " thanks for your patience with my lack of knowledge of plumbing...

A "Street" fitting is a fitting with a hub (female) on one end and a spigot (male) on the other end. They got the "Street" part of their name due to the fitting (test tee) that used to be required at the connection of the building sewer at the street. The Sewer at the street always terminated with a hub (female) and a street fitting was required to connect the two and allow the plumber to pressure test the sewer with water.
In your case, you have already installed a 3" street closet flange -- that's why your 45 slipped over the bottom of it. I believe I see at least one street 45 that isn't being used in one of your pictures.
I am a plumber and I see the angles and distance you have to work with in your picture and I am confident that a pair of 60s or maybe one 60 and one street 60 will take care of it.
Bruce
Edit: I went back to your pictures and I do not see a street 45. All you have are regular 45s.

nice job on the closet flange . to make the 45's work you need to cut down your 3'' abs pipe leave about 3''above the floor. you may need a 45 deg. 3'' street ell. put your rubber coupling on abs pipe , then 3'' street ell, bell side going to closet flange . put your other 45 on the flange and see if you line up . eye ball it ,if you line up take a measurement from inside bell to bell. if you don't line up you may need 60 deg. ells . they did a really bad job at the factory . now if your 45 deg. ells will line up you can fudge a small amount of bad line up at the rubber coupling . good luck

Hey all... It ain't pretty, but if it don't leak, I won't speak ( cuss) and, thus far, it's dry as a Baptist picnic.
One 45, one 60, two rubber sleeves, 5 trips to 3 hardware stores, and I'm laughing. My FRF plumber friends must be cracking up, but I am nonetheless proud of the results. A debt of gratitude to all of you...

If you don't like the looks of it, get some paint and spray paint it. If it doesn't leak you are a winner!
