We used city water all last year and I only used the water pump to force antifreeze through the plumbing lines when we winterized. I am ready to dewinterizing now. My question is: Can I use city water to flush out the lines or is it necessary to fill my fresh water tank and run water through the pump. I'm concerned that if I don't, then I could leave some residual antifreeze in the pump and it could cause damage. We will be using city water again all year so the fresh water tank is not a necessity right now. Thanks in advance.
Secondly, having trouble getting the anode rod to screw securely back into the hot water heater. Using the tape but it's a no go.😯

I would do the standard dewinterize and sanitize the entire water system, including fresh water tank. A pic of the thread on the anode rod and the thread in the tank might help with a answer.

You can use the city water to dewinterize. If you are concerned about the water pump , just use the winterization hose to to draw in a gallon or so of water and it will rinse out the pump and filter.
I prefer to sanitize the water lines every spring and that is easier to do using the FW tank. I would sanitize the FW tank each spring just in case. You never know when there could be a problem with city water and you would need the FW tanks as a backup.
